Highlight Transparency?

Recommended Posts

I've been experimenting with the Accordance demo after watching the podcasts on IBS. As an example, if I create a red box highlight and a yellow fill highlight and first highlight a word with the red box then highlight the sentence that contains that word with the yellow fill highlight, the yellow fill highlight seems to cover up the red box highlight. I'm wondering if this is normal or if there's some way of setting the transparency of the yellow fill highlight so that the red box is still visible behind it. If this doesn't make sense or I need to provide a few images let me know.

Thanks!

Hi, Paul!

I don't believe there is a way of setting opacity in Accordance, though we certainly can use "custom colors" to select lighter shades. We can also select lighter shades under "Intensity." Recently, I have wondered if I should have changed my highlighting styles to avoid the problem you mentioned. Instead, I could use various kinds of underlining in three "zones:" above, through and under. Accordance does have all those styles under "Shape." They all look much the same in the menu, but they are positioned differently over the words themselves. Using them this way permits one to see all the highlights that apply to a specific word [well, at least three of them].

Just a thought...

Another option is to use a striped rather than solid shape as this lets you see any other highlighting in between the stripes.

Thanks Dr. J & Helen. I will experiment further with other highlight combinations. The above, under and through zones seem like a good approach and will probably work most of the time.
