Hello,

I work in Nairobi, Kenya where the bandwidth is low, speeds are slow, connections are iffy and cost is high. In my office we have 4 Accordance users. When an update comes out we all need it so we all have to download it. Is there a way to download an update once then share it with the other computers?

Thanks,

Jason

Yes, it is possible to transfer the updates to other computers.

Normally the updates are downloaded to and unstuffed in

~/Library/Caches/TemporaryItems/AccordanceUpdates/

so you can grab the .zip files from there and copy them to other Macs. However, they'll be removed on restart so you need to do it during that session. You'll also have to locate the file that you need to update on the other Mac. It should be in Modules: Texts or Modules: Tools.

What's happening with the super broadband access that is supposed to be coming to East Africa? Hope you get it soon.

Well, when we move to our new building it will be better. "Fast, affordable Internet" Here that means 1MB down, 512kb up for $1500!

In the mean time I'll try to grab the zips before they get purged.

It would be cool to have a place where we could download them on our own. When the connection drops while Accordance is downloading it has to start all over. If I could download them from a website I could use something like the Firefox plugin DownThemAll. That way if the connection dropped it could auto re-start the download. I could even set it to download overnight when the bandwidth is better and I wouldn't bother other people.

Do I just remove (rename, move, hide) the old file and replace it with the new one from the download? It looks that easy, but I just want to make sure before I go fouling up everyone's Accordance :)

Just replace the old file with the new. Just be sure you don't have two copies of the same file in the Accordance folder. Accordance is smart enough to find the file that it actually uses, and replace that one, but if you have two copies in different locations, you cannot tell which one Accordance is using.
