Need help adjusting width of Dictionary "look-ups"

3 What I\'d like to see after search automatically.tiffThis may not be a solvable problem. I like to have a fairly narrow column width when I'm reading on a computer.

I've set my Accordance workspace to default to this: 1 My default window:

When I do a dictionary search I get this window which spreads the dictionary across the full width of the screen-

too wide for comfortable reading for me: 2 After Dictionary search on "Jehoram":

What I'd like to see is the Dictionary entry less wide- like the third picture- in this case I opened the Browser and

widened the browser contents viewer to cause the Dictionary entry to be reduced. 3. What I'd like to see after search:

One of your tech team suggested this fix:

"James,

If you are using your resource palette, go to the English Tools (the one with the capital A). If you have a 2 button mouse,

left click and hold on the book and you will get a pop-up, select the dictionary. It should open up in a smaller window

than your workspace, at the first hit that contains your search. If you right click, it will open up in a large window and

at the beginning of the dictionary."

However left clicking as suggested and right clicking on the English Tools both bring up the same result which is what you

see in the second picture. Neither caused the window to come up in a pop up above the main browser. I'd actually much

prefer if it would open inside the browser in a new tab just like shown in picture 3.

Perhaps this is not possible- but if it is possible I'd appreciate a suggestion as to how to achieve it.

Thanks very much for your help,

Jim

Sorry- I couldn't get the 3 photos to display in the order I wanted but you can go from the text and accompanying captions.

I know exactly what you mean about preferring narrower columns for legibility.

If you're going to be using the dictionary constantly, I'd suggest detaching the tab with the dictionary (Window menu > Tabs > Detach Tab; or the keyboard shortcut cmd-opt-t) and then tiling the workspace window with the newly emancipated tab-in-its-own-window (Window menu > Arrange > Tile Windows). See if that works for you. You can also Merge this new window back into the workspace behind it (Window menu > Tabs > Merge Windows; or cmd-opt-m).

Thank You,

Your solution worked perfectly. I detached the results of the Look Up Dictionary search from the rest of the desktop and moved the new tab about two thirds hidden behind the desktop. Now whenever I do a look up search the new tab jumps to the front, and when I get any kind of a photo to click on it jumps to full size on the screen which is perfect for me.
