Greek Bible (LXX and Greek NT together)

As many scholars are increasingly pointing out, the language of the Greek New Testament is to a large extent shaped by the very specific form of Greek used in the Septuagint.

 

The use of Greek doxa as a translation for kabod, glory, is an example. In Plato, doxa is used often, but it means opinion. In the NT it consistently means glory. Searches for terms and constructions in the whole Greek Bible are therefore very important. They are available in other Bible Programs, e.g., Bible Works.

 

I was told by a member of the Accordance team about a year ago that a single searchable module containing the whole Greek Bible would become available soon, after the publication of the Swete edition of the Septuagint, which has come out since then.

 

Today I contacted Accordance again, but plans do not seem to have progressed.

 

If anyone is aware of a work-around, please let me know.

 

As for the Accordance team, I gently remind them that such a module would be very welcome.

You would have to manually aggregate statistics, but you can easily search both corpuses simultaneously using the LINK command. See screenshot.

I would also welcome such a module.

With J.P.'s suggestion, being able in version 9 to have the two windows in two zones side by side is sweet.

 

AND, the new Search All window does allow you to create a My Group of LXX and GNT and then search that as a corpus, though the results are still limited.

I'd like to see this, too.

 

In the meantime, I have a saved workspace called "Greek Word Search" that has tabs for the GNT-T, LXX2, and LXX2, along with lexicons. I can highlight a word in the text I'm working with, amplify to the workspace, and Accordance searches both the GNT and the LXX for me. The results are in different tabs, but it's still quicker than running the search twice.
