Multiple Greek (or Eng/Heb) tools in the same tab.

Is it possible to view multiple tools (Louw&Nida/Thayer for example) in the same tab in Accordance 8? Having a tab with four lexicons simultaneously would be very useful. The interface between texts of different languages, notes, and commentaries within a tab is a very useful feature. Is it possible to do the same thing within other tools? I found a passing reference that implied it might not be possible on the online videos but I wanted to make sure.

If it is impossible this seems to be at odds with your ideology. For example, the best way for me to consult more than one source on the word "λυω" is to highlight it and open it in 5 different tabs or to search for it and then get the page attached as a result. This page is very un-WYSIWYG (if searching and displaying things filed differently--english vs greek etc--is the problem then searching from within a greek tools window would be perfect...this is the best place to put this functionality) . I CAN search more than one lexicon at once and Oaktree clearly understands the value of having multiple resources visible at a time; I am confused as to why this functionality is not included or so hard to find.

If this is not possible then has this issue been fixed in Accordance 9?

Short answer: upgrade to version 9. :)

First of all, I can tell from the look of your tabs that you aren't even at the latest version of v8, which is a free upgrade. There were many features and bug fixes done for free throughout the v8 cycle, so I'd highly recommend it. On the other hand, Accordance 9 has been significantly improved to handle multiple resources much better. Not only does it support zones, as Rick showed, but the Search All has been vastly improved, showing results in the same window and much faster:

However, if you don't want to upgrade to 9 due to the cost ($49 I believe), you can set this up with a bit more hassle in Accordance 8. If you detach each of the tabs of the lexicons (Command-Option-T), then tile the windows (Command-I), they'll appear as zones. You can then Link each of the windows together (Shift-Command-L in the entry box) so that they are each searched simultaneously. See this setup: (picture taken with Accordance 9, but the principle is identical. Sorry, I didn't keep an 8 around for the pic)

Thanks for the tips! Upgrade 9 is in my future. Until then the multiple windows will suffice. It's not quite as elegant as the version 9 solution though. The new search page looks a lot better too.

  • 2 weeks later...

I just upgraded to version 9. Zones are a whole lot neater than a million tiny floating windows.

It seems that it is still not possible to have multiple lexicons open in a single tab? My ideal set up is ESV/GNT-T in parallel on one tab and a few language tools on another tab in the same workspace. A triple click would bring me to my recycled primary lexicon in my second tab and update the other linked lexicons in the same tab. I would love to only have one window open (two i guess...unless instant details can fit somewhere else now) while still maintaining access to the tools I want to use and plenty of real estate on my screen when I'm reading the Bible.

I can make do with another workspace filled with lexicons hidden behind the one containing my Bibles; it's much more elegant than the entire Space filled tiny windows I was using with version 8...I just wanted to make sure I'm not missing something as I work on figuring out how I'm going to organize my windows with v. 9.

Thanks for your help!

One option is to have a dedicated lexical workspace, with each lexicon in a different zone. With recycling on, if you triple click it should display that workspace with all your lexicons immediately, and you can just cycle back to your other workspace when done.

Alternatively, you could amplify to search all instead and have each of the lexical entries displayed together in one tab.
