Improving Highlighting of Hebrew & verses

The problems are difficult to describe, but must be experience by all who try to Highlight Hebrew. The last letter resists highlighting. And sometimes one finds oneself having to highlight twice a string of mixed language words in a Hebrew dictionary. One may have to go to the next line to highlight the last letter on the first line. And itt seems difficult to highlight continuously across two lines of text also.

Then there is the pop-up rebuke message (LOL) accusing one of having sinned by highlighting both words and a verse number. Even the space beside the verse number may trigger this annoyance. It is nice that you can simultaneously highlight one pane and another (English and Hebrew), but I'm not sure I even understand the rules for doing this. Should there be something to click on the screen to turn that off and on? I am hightlighting the ASV and Hebrew in parallel. I don't know if the same things happen on texts that are keyed to each other, word by word.

Here are some tips:

If you highlight within a single verse, you can only highlight the text, not the text and number. It is not allowed.

Anytime you highlight more than one verse, it automatically highlights across the other texts you have.

If you attempt a second highlight within a verse, that highlight will cancel out or trump any multiverse highlights within that verse of that particular text. It will not affect other texts.

These are just "working" tips. There may be more nuances to this which are beyond my personal experience.

Hope that's helpful.

Thanks for the response.

I've been using Accordance all these years and never realized that you could highlight dictionaries and lexicons and stuff. I thought you could just highlight bibles.

It looks as if one cannot highlight user notes or user tools. But it's nice to be able to highlight more than just bibles. Thanks for the post.

It is indeed an Accordance blessing that one can highlight lexicons. For lexicons are prone to save space with the result that categories & meanings are difficult to read in the midst of all the references. Years ago with Bauer's Lexican (BDAG) I adopted a highlighting scheme: pink for meanings; Level 1 Categories blue, Level 2 Categories Green, Level 3 Categories Orange. NT quotes or references I marked in yellow (so they stood out vs. references to other literature, like the Apostolic Fathers. And I marked over parentheses occasionally in Red ink, since it can be hard to find the end of a parenthesis or to see where the material before the parenthesis continues.

I chose to use colors from tmy Lexicon Highlight Scheme to also mark topics in the Bible (for this year's topic marking), since if one has incompatible highlight systems between a lexicon and the Bible text, one can spend a lot of time changing schemes between marking text & marking words one looks up in a lexicon.

I have liked to choose topics to mark in a Bible every year so that by the end of the year I have another topically marked Bible. Once I marked the funny passages in the Bible (like in 2 Kings 4: "O man of God, there's death in the pot!" Another year I marked the passages on separation; that could be a part of one's Politically Incorrect Bible.
