Resetting or clearing search in bible

Sorry for the flood of questions on what I think are basic functions but I'm getting frustrated with my inability to think like Accordance. Nothing is where I expect it to be or does what I expect it to do. Your patience is appreciated.

When I do a search for a verse it displays only the verse I've searched for. How do I make it just go to that verse instead of eliminating the rest of the bible?

Hi Paul:

Just hit the tab key to toggle between the search box on the top and the search box in the bottom right. When you have the cursor in the bottom right search box, you can type a reference and keep the whole search text intact. But make sure you are displaying the whole text to begin with. Do this by typing an asterisk in the top search box and hitting the enter key. If this is confusing, let me know and I will try to explain it better.

It's also probably helpful to point out that you can quickly restore the whole text by double-clicking the Verses button (it does what Steve refers to in his penultimate sentence).

It helps to realize that EVERYTHING in Accordance is based on search. The verses displayed are not locations in a text but rather search returns from the list of verses in the Bible. If you want to see more of the text, just broaden your search (ie. John 8 rather than John 8:12.) One useful trick is to use f or ff after verses. For example, John 8:12f will show John 8:12-13, while John 8:12ff will show John 8:12 through the rest of the chapter. If you search for a broad range, you can see where you are by looking at the drop-down box that's displayed under the text, and you can use the buttons on the bottom left to navigate up/down by book, chapter, verse, etc.

You might find the accordance podcasts on itunes to be helpful.

You can also do a search for the verse and have it display the context. In Accordance 9 use the slider below the search entry at the top and move it to the right to increase the context. Moving it all the way to the right will display the whole Bible and it will show blue marks for the verses you searched for and you can move between the marks using the arrows at the bottom.
