My Tools question

From time to time, I would like to change the name of various files in My Tools Folder. There doesn't seem to be any way to do this. I can't find any way in the Accordance software and when I change the name in the computer files, Accordance doesn't recognize the change.

 

Any help in this area would be greatly appreciated.

You can delete the old tool from the Library window and then add or open the tool with the new name. The same goes for User Notes. Rememeber that your active copies are the ones in your user/Documents (on OS X).

Thanks so much, Helen, for the info on how to change Names on the files in "My Tools". I spent a lot of time trying out different ways to accomplish this and you explain the procedure in three simple sentences. Wow! I'm beginning to think, "What would we do without you"!

 

As a result of moving the files around before your guidance, I have incurred another problem. Some of my files in My Tools no longer have the link button at the of the document to press when I highlight a text. The document just has a continuous flow without any update at the bottom. Also, when I click on a text which is underline and in blue, the text does not appear in a separate window. How do I correct these problems? Thanks again for all of your help.

It sounds like you may be confusing the Edit window for editing your tools and the actual Search tab for displaying and using the tools. The link button should always appear at the bottom of every Edit window (You can confirm it by also having the Update button to the bottom right and saying 'Editing ____' as the window title). However, links should always work when using the tool (You can confirm the tab is a Search tab by it having an entry box and search button at the top of the window).

Thank you, Joel, for your assistance. Let me describe my transaction:

 

I go to the Resource Palette and click on "My Tools" and then click on one of the files in My Tools folder. I think that I get the search window that you mentioned. Then I place my curser on one of the spaces on the words and press the spacebar. That used to provide a window that had an update button on the bottom left side that would light up when I highlighted a text. After highlighting the text, I would click on the Update button and the text would be linked. Currently, I get a window that lists the file name at the top with the word "Edit" . The window has information that continues to flow at the botton as I scroll with two fingers. Obviously, I can't link texts with this page since it has no Update at the bottom.

 

What am I doing wrong?

Russ: this behavior is not happening for me. The Edit window open as normal with the buttons at the bottom. Maybe try a restart of the Mac and any other general fixes you can think of, and see if it persists. If it does Joel may need to screenshare with you to troubleshoot it.

As a follow-up, I just wanted to let you know that everything is working fine. After your guidance to help clean up my files in My Tools, I went ahead ahead and reinstalled Accordance 9 and all of the purchases. As the expression goes, I'm a happy camper!
