Titles in Bible Texts

I would really love to see titles within the text, such as those common in NIV bibles and other ones as well. I know these are not definitive Scripture, but they would definitely be helpful when scrolling through text quickly to find something. Perhaps this could be done by integrating the Outlines module into texts themselves so the outline titles introduce pieces of text.

I recognize that right now, Bible texts are designed in such a way where any titles that are inserted would have to be either included as a verse in the chapter or (as is the case in the psalms) labeled verse 0. Therefore, to

institute titles within the course of the text would require some restructuring of bible modules. However, while I find Accordance superior to other alternative software packages, this is one place where I find Accordance to lag behind.

This, I believe, would also be extremely helpful for those using Accordance on the iPad for whom scrolling through a text quickly is preferable to a variety of keyboard searches to find the right passage.

Yes, this would be great. This is one of the reasons it is more enjoyable to read a bible or study bible on OT BibleReader on the iPad.

I would prefer that the titles be kept separate from the text as I think it allows more flexibility. The new edition of the NIV has the titles included in the notes that syncs in parallel and I think that is a good way to do it.

I do have a comment about the titles in the NIV 2011 notes in that I find that sometimes they are hidden. I think here it would be helpful if something were done so they would be more visible.

I would greatly prefer NOT to have the titles in the text as it can bias the way someone reads a passage or cause the reader to mentally separate portions of a text that really should be read together. I use Accordance on an iPad as my primary bible in church and sometimes at home and like that the titles aren't there.

I agree with Jonathan Huber. Titles are often misleading and they do effect the way one approaches the reading of scripture.

There should be a computerized way to either hide or display Titles similarly to how you can search Titles or not in various tools. I'm sure it would be difficult to implement, but I see benefit in having both a general subject of the text available as well as the ability to look at the text afresh without previous interpretation.
