Search for root doesn't work when I type, but does when I 'command-click'

Hi,

I was trying to search for all the occurrences of words based on the root δίκη in the Synoptic gospels.

If I typed the search into the search box (+δικη) I was given the error 'There are no verses in the current range ... which fit the current search entry.' But if I command-clicked on a word, such as δικαιοσύνη, and chose 'Search for root' I was returned 71 hits.

I've run across the problem before. Is this a bug, or am I trying to perform the search in the wrong way?

Thanks,

Daniel

I believe your issue in this case is the accent over the iota (or lack of one).

EDIT:

Hmmm.. actually I can put any accent, or no accent and I get consistent results.

When I tried to duplicate your search with the synoptics (Matt-Luke), I never got your error.

Can you share how you entered your text by hand? Are you literally typing, pasting, using a Unicode Keyboard Viewer, etc.?

Hi Mike,

I think I entered the search by typing δικη (that is typing dikh into the search box and it comes out in greek due to searching GNT-T) and then putting my cursor at the beginning of the word and selecting Search->Enter Symbol->Root Form.

After reading your post, I tried re-entering the search by hand, and strangely it worked! But when I reselected the failed search from the History drop down, the old version of it failed. What's interesting is that the search in the history drop-down doesn't have the + symbol in front of it (have a look at the image, it's the third entry down), but when I select it from the History drop-down, the search +δικη is entered into the search box?! (The screen shot I've attached shows the search box after the faulty search is selected from the History drop-down.)

Daniel

Ok, I think I've found something.

When you click the toggle between Search for Words and Verses and you've got Greek/Hebrew text in the search box it gets changed to the English keyboard characters which you typed in to get the search word (so if you've just searched for Ἰησοῦς, if you click 'Verses' the search box will now contain ΔIhsouv
