Timeline Issues

This week I've been working with the timeline, trying to develop a print handout that will address some questions a member of my Sunday School class asked about the time gap between David's live and the writing of the 1&2 Samuel, 1&2 Kings, etc.

I found the ability to copy and paste sections from the timeline frustratingly limitied, specifically:

-the copied image does not include the year labels

-the copied image is not very "scalable"; increasing the size of the image blurs the text

-I can't select past the edges of the window (the window won't scroll as I select); since I work on a 13" MBPro, this means I have to zoom out until the type is fairly small

-the "legend" for the different symbols isn't included in what is copied.

I ended up using a "screenshot" to get an image that included the year labels and legend. But font size/scalability is still an issue.

I'd like to see some options for the display of the "Timeline Data Tab," so that I could opt to sort by date, list date before event, etc.

I'd also appreciate it if the 500 year limit for the Data Tab were eliminated or at least increased. I had to do two separate "runs" and copy/paste and edit in a Word Processor to get a list that worked for my handout.

Finally, I second the request in another thread for a podcast (or better yet a series of them) on working with the Timeline. There's a lot of power there, but I am really struggling to figure out how to make use of it.

Lorinda, thanks for your post.

1) The 500 year limit was an arbitrary one, we'll improve it for the next release.

2) When you copy, it is a direct picture copy, and like most pictures can't really be zoomed in without causing pixellation. However, if you print the timeline tab as a pdf, the text and graphics will be vectors, so you can scale and zoom it more easily. There is a minor bug that printing as a pdf doesn't show the year rulers, which we'll also fix for the next release.

3) Programming the legend to be included would be a more major process, but we'll put it on our list.
