Compare different Hebrew/Greek texts in terms of vocabulary etc.

Is there a possibility to compare different texts from, e.g., BHS or LXX and let Accordance highlight shared vocabulary? For example, I am currently working on Judith and noticed that the book shares significant imagery with Nahum. Instead of scrutinizing both texts myself looking for common words and expressions, I would love to just let Accordance do the work for me... As far as I have been able to tell, the 'compare' function only works for different renderings of the same text, not texts from different books or chapters. Am I overlooking something?

I would appreciate any help you can provide!

There is no direct way to compare a Hebrew text with a Greek one, but Accordance can certainly help in your task. You will want to use the HITS, COUNT and INFER commands in the LXX. For example, as shown in the attachments, you can search Nahum in one tab, and then search Judith for the less common words found in Nahum. You can display Nahum and search Judith for any phrases similar to those in Nahum.

 

The Help files give details on these commands, and there are also podcasts demonstrating their use.

 

To compare the Hebrew with the Greek you need the MT-LXX Parallel tool which lets you run MERGE searches from the tagged text to show exactly how the words are translated in each verse.

thanks so much for your reaction! I realize that my post was not entirely clear - although there are certainly times that I need to compare the Hebrew text with the LXX translation, in this case I was just looking for ways to find out what vocabulary two LXX texts (Judith and Nahum) share. Can I just follow your instructions above and substitute the LXX for the MT-LXX tool? Or is there an even simpler way?

My examples use the LXX, not the MT-LXX, and will do exactly what you want.
