Benefits of Amplifying

I was wondering if some of you could help me understand amplifying and its benefits given the presence functions such as triple clicks, the library window and resource palette. Its not so much of 'how' do we amplify, but why do we amplify (or have that function)?

I've searched the forums and didn't find anything that really explained the purpose of it and how you can benefit from it and I went back and reviewed 5 of the earlier podcasts just so I wouldn't have to ask such a simple question.

But here am I... asking for your help! It seems like such a prominent feature yet I never use it... and I'd like to use this great program to its fullest.

Thanks for being gracious!

Amplifying is what we call anything that searches one resource from another. When you triple click, thats an amplify based on the selection to your top dictionary. When you select a word and use the resource palette to search another resource, thats amplifying. Same thing when you right-click and do 'Search for ____', that is also an amplify. An amplify from the menu item is the same as all of these, you just happen to see the word 'amplify' instead of an icon or other text.

As to the benefits of all of this? The flexibility and power is unsurpassed! You can select any reference and find that usage in any other text or tool, even if its not a commentary. You can select a word in ESVS, find the Greek word behind that in your TDNT Complete, then select a different greek lemma in there and see if thats mentioned in any of your journal articles. Amplifying will handle english, key numbers, roots, lemmas, inflected forms, etc.

Joel, First off, thanks for not laughing at the question! And secondly, the way you answered it above was perfect- seeing that all the other functions are themselves amplifying as well was a great help. I would always look at the amplify section of the menu item and wonder why it was there (since I never used it).

So thanks...
