Search with FIELD command

I really like the new Accordance 10 -- well worth the upgrade price. I had one question: there was a really cool feature back in Accordance version 8 such that with the FIELD command, one could list the FIRST verse of every book of the Bible (or the last verse),

and somehow, that feature with the FIELD command never worked for me with version 9.

I like version 10. Two questions:

1. With Mobile Notes: is there a way that my notes should "sync" between devices so that: if I take my iPAD to church, and type out my notes while the pastor is preaching, said notes will appear when I get home to use my MacBookPro?

2. More important: with the Field Command, how do I tell the Field Command to search "within a book" or "within a chapter" -- which it could do -- back in Accordance 8? I was really hoping that I could such searches again. Perhaps I am missing something

rather basic.

Again, the upgrade price is well worth the money.

Thanks

Hi Jonna,

the problem with your first question can be the answer of the third. The second question (numbered 1) - stay tuned, at the moment we have to manually sync notes and highlights, but we are working on some other options.

As to this:

"I had one question: there was a really cool feature back in Accordance version 8 such that with the FIELD command, one could list the FIRST verse of every book of the Bible (or the last verse),"

Try this: Select Word mode, type "* <WITHIN 1 WORDS> [FIELD Begin] then at the far right of the search field entry box you will see a small plus button next to the recycle button

If you click this once, you will open up the Range popups and at the far right of this row is a - button and a + button. Click the plus button on this row and you will open up the scope popups and you have the answer to no. 3! But if then you select chapter (leave the range buttons alone for this), press return and voila, you have the first verse of every chapter with the first word highlit...

Hope this helps!

Hi, Ken! Thats the right idea, but you don't have to have 2 conditions up (Range and Scope) to set the search scope. Instead of hitting the second plus button, just change the Range popup menu to Scope and set it directly to Chapter.

Hey Joel!

Yeah, I know you can drop the Range condition, but you don't need to...unless it's a subrange...

Thanks for the additional info though! Always learning...

Thanks -- I have my list of "first verses". As I recall, it will be a greater challenge to get the "last verse". Thanks again!

I just did the search -- my goal is to get the first verse of every book for my Sunday School class. I have the range set to all, but somehow, I am missing some books: Genesis, Exodus, Psalm, Num, Deut, Isai, Jere, Ezek.

Basically, I get 58 "Hits", rather than 66 Hits?

I was able to set up the search for "last verses", but again -- I get a canon of only 58 books, rather than a canon of 66 books. I tried with the NASB -- and I get only 58 books, but I tried with the ESV -- and now I am missing Luke! What am I doing wrong?

only 57 books with esv.tiff

First verse gen and exodus missing.tiff

Jonna - I get only 58 hits with the NAS95, and I'm missing the same books of the Pentateuch that you're missing. Odd.

I tried with a few other versions, and I am consistently missing Genesis and Exodus. The only way I can get over 60 books, is to use the NRSV -- which includes the Apocrypha. I wonder if this is some sort of bug?
