The Search window for Bible texts is the core of Accordance.

  • The top of the window lets you define your search, and shows the settings for the current search.
  • The More options area lets you set additional search parameters.
  • The panes below display your results in your chosen Bibles, with optional panes for margin notes, commentaries, or your own comments.

Search Capabilities:

Accordance is unparalleled in its ability to search the text of the Bible. Simply enter a word or phrase and click OK to see the resulting verses, or access the powerful search functions from simple menus.

Key Numbers Display Greek and Hebrew:

Instant details window with key numbers

Access the original Greek and Hebrew words accurately and easily with the English Bibles (the KJVS, ESVS, NAS95S, or NIV-G/K) which include Key (Strong's) Number capability. They let you:

  • View the Key number and original word for any word under the cursor.
  • Instantly highlight the original word if you have a "tagged" text in parallel.
  • Triple-click to open the related dictionary.
  • Open an Analysis or Parsing window showing the key information for the search hits or selected words.
  • Search for the Key numbers with a single click, or by using commands or the graphical Construct window.
  • Option-click to search for the Greek or Hebrew words in any text or tool.

Working with Search Results:

Once you have looked up verses by reference or performed a search, you can interact with the results of your search in a wide variety of ways.

  • View multiple translations or the original Greek and Hebrew in parallel panes of the same window. Drag the panes to rearrange them.
  • Customize the appearance of the text by changing its font, size, style, color, spacing, and formatting. You can even customize the appearance of the verse references, and set a color background.
  • Use bookmarks to mark verses of interest.
  • Collect all your marked verses in a reference list window for future reference.
  • Append multilingual notes to any verse of the Bible.
  • Click the Details button to see a Graph, Analysis, Concordance, or Table of your results.

Digging Deeper -- Amplify Features:Resource palette

You "amplify" any time you look to some other resource for more information about the words you select in any text or tool. Here are a few of the ways Accordance enables you to "amplify" your selection -- and all with a simple click of the mouse!

  • Directly search any Bible text for a word, phrase, or reference.
  • View parallel passages or quotations from other parts of the Bible together.
  • See a verse in context.
  • Look up selected words or verses in any lexicon, Bible dictionary, commentary, topical Bible, cross-reference, or a tool set you define.
  • Find any place name on the map.
  • Display people and events on the Timeline
  • Create and access your notes on any verses you select, or your own User Tools.
  • Parse selected words in a keyed text or Greek or Hebrew.
  • Diagram sentences or analyze the syntax.
  • Hear English, Greek, or Hebrew text read aloud.
  • Instantly search the same module, or search all of your library for your selection (or define a reusable group of texts and tools).

A Library at your Fingertips:

Accordance offers a wide range of tools that can deepen your study of the Bible. Any dictionary, commentary, or other tool module is instantly accessible. Open it in a new window and use the browser to navigate the articles. Search the titles, contents, scripture references, Greek, or Hebrew fields independently. Select a word or phrase in another window and find it in the tool of your choice. Click on Scripture references to view the full text, and on internal cross references to jump to them.

Full Integration with the Bible Atlas and the Timeline:

Plug in the Bible Atlas or the Timeline and move seamlessly between customizable maps or time charts and all your texts and tools.

Doing Your Own Thing:Highlight palette

Accordance gives you many ways to save your own work as you study the Bible.

  • Save any window or set of windows, or a reference list with your own collection of verses. Set your favorites to start up or use any time.
  • Make User Notes for any verse, or User Tool modules of your own work, or imported text. You can even import your own Bible text.
  • Highlight either words or verses with your own defined styles, and save, search, or print the highlights.
  • Copy or print any text or picture.

Stay Organized:

  • Keep tabs on everything in the Workspace instead of multiple window clutter.
  • Arrange your resources in the Library window, find, and open them in an instant.

Note the Difference:

Click on Compare Texts to highlight all the differences between two texts: what's changed, added or missing in either one.

Original Language Capabilities:

For students of the original Greek and Hebrew, the Scholar's Collection offers advanced features with a wide variety of grammatically tagged texts. And while these features are incredibly powerful, they are still remarkably easy to use.

  • Position the mouse over any Greek or Hebrew word to instantly see its parsing and definition.
  • Consult a variety of Greek and Hebrew lexicons for more detailed definitions.
  • Find all words derived from a lexical or a root form.
  • Search by grammatical characteristics such as tense, voice, gender, stem, etc.
  • Need a refresher on what all those terms mean? Accordance Help explains every grammatical term.
  • Do sophisticated grammatical analysis using the statistical capabilities of Accordance.

Powerful Search Functions:

  • Simple word and phrase searches. Just type what you're looking for and click OK.
  • Boolean searches. Combine search expressions using AND, OR, and NOT.
  • Proximity and sequence-specific searches, such as David <WITHIN 5 Words> <FOLLOWED BY> Jonathan.
  • Search within clause, sentence, paragraph, verse, chapter, or book fields to limit searches (with AND or other commands) to those boundaries.
  • Search within user-definable ranges, such as "Torah," "Prophets," or "Gospels."
  • Global and character-specific wild-card searches for related groups of words. For example, sp?(ao)ke finds "spoke" or "spake" but not "spike."
  • Greek and Hebrew grammatical searches. For example, find all occurrences of "agapaw" in the aorist indicative.
  • Graphical searches. Define complex word relationships using an intuitive graphical interface.
  • Combine windows to use the argument or results from one window in another.
  • Compare vocabulary between passages using [HITS] to find, for example, the words in Genesis 3 that were not used in Gen 1-2.
  • Search based on frequency of the word, lemma, or grammatical tag.
