Altamonte Springs, FL—November 11, 2011—Accordance Bible Software released Accordance 9.5, a free update to its industry-leading Bible study software for the Mac. Version 9.5 adds a new Dynamic Interlinear, which can be used as a traditional interlinear Bible or customized to display additional information such as Greek and Hebrew Lemmas, syntax, and morphology. The Dynamic Interlinear can also stack multiple Bible translations that are tagged with key numbers, allowing for at-a-glance comparisons of Greek and Hebrew manuscripts.

This enhancement adds cross-highlighting to all parallel Bibles tagged with key numbers, so that when a user hovers over a word, that word and all corresponding words are simultaneously highlighted.

NICNT Now Available for Accordance Bible Software

Altamonte Springs, FL—August 10, 2011—The New International Commentary on the New Testament (NICNT) is now available for use with Accordance Bible Software.

NICNT is a highly acclaimed and immensely popular commentary covering all the books of the New Testament except for 2 Peter and Jude. The series seeks “to provide earnest students of the New Testament with an exposition that is thorough and abreast of modern scholarship and at the same time loyal to the Scriptures as the infallible Word of God.”

NICNT provides exposition which takes technical questions into account, but which avoids getting bogged down in technical details. More technical aspects, such as grammatical, textual, and historical problems, are dealt with in footnotes, special notes, and appendixes—enabling the main text of the commentary to remain highly readable and accessible.

NICNT is continually being updated, with older volumes periodically revised or replaced with newer volumes more conversant with contemporary scholarship. In the past two years, the volumes on the books of John (by Leon Morris) and James (by James B. Adamson) have been replaced with new commentaries by J. Ramsey Michaels and Scot McKnight. The Accordance edition of NICNT includes both the old and new volumes, enabling users to compare the two side-by-side.

The Accordance edition of NICNT has been painstakingly developed to take full advantage of the software’s capabilities. Intelligent search fields, instant abbreviations, thousands of links to other Accordance resources, and more enable users to interact with this commentary like never before.

The Accordance edition of NICNT includes the equivalent of 20 print volumes worth more than $1000. It retails for $599, and is currently offered at the introductory sale price of $499. It can be used with Accordance for Mac and iOS, and can be used on a Windows PC using a free emulator. For more details, see the Accordance website.

Accordance Bible Software Releases Halley’s Bible Handbook (February 1, 2011)

Altamonte Springs, FL—February 2011—Accordance Bible Software is pleased to announce the release of Halley’s Bible Handbook, a concise guide to the Bible which has been treasured by generations of Bible students.

Henry Hampton Halley was a traveling preacher in the early twentieth century who would recite large portions of the Bible from memory, often giving a brief introduction to each book of the Bible from which he recited. His audiences found these introductions so helpful to their own understanding of the Bible that Halley eventually wrote and distributed a 16-page pamphlet containing that information. This Bible Handbook was expanded throughout Halley’s lifetime and now comprises a large full-color volume published by Zondervan Publishing House. Through its ongoing partnership with Zondervan, Accordance is now able to offer this Christian classic in a fully-searchable e-book which can be used on a computer, iPad, or iPhone.

The Accordance edition of Halley’s Bible Handbook integrates seamlessly with Accordance’s extensive library of Bibles, commentaries, and other study aids. It includes hundreds of high-resolution color photographs and dozens of helpful maps and charts. It can also be scrolled in parallel with the text of the Bible so that Halley’s Handbook can be used like a study Bible.

“At a time when Biblical literacy is declining, few people understand why the various books of the Bible were written and how they all fit together,” explains David Lang, Vice President of Development for Accordance Bible Software. “Halley’s Bible Handbook is a concise, user-friendly guide to the text of the Bible and the world in which it was written. As such, it’s a very important addition to our growing library of resources.”

Accordance Bible Software releases Historic Views of the Holy Land (January 17, 2011)

Altamonte Springs, FL—January 2011—Accordance Bible Software has released a fully-searchable collection of over 4000 historic photos of the Holy Land. The American Colony and Eric Matson Collection contains photographs taken in Israel prior to the establishment of the modern nation-state and the growth of its major cities. As such, it enables people to view the lands of the Bible much as it appeared for thousands of years.

“Picturing the world of the Bible has always been something of a challenge,” explains David Lang, Vice President of Development for Accordance Bible Software. “Earlier artistic depictions are often inaccurate, and modern photographs are marred by high-rise buildings, asphalt roads, electric wires, automobiles, etc. The photos in this collection let us travel back in time to see the Holy Land when it still looked much as it had in Biblical times.”

Made available through a partnership with BiblePlaces.com, the Accordance edition of The American Colony and Eric Matson Collection can be searched by a variety of criteria and integrates seamlessly with all other Accordance-compatible Bibles and study aids. The images it contains can easily be exported to a word-processing document or slideshow program like Keynote or PowerPoint.

The American Colony and Eric Matson Collection costs $149 and can be purchased and downloaded through the Accordance web-site. For details, seehttp://www.accordancebible.com/store/details/?pid=BP-American+Colony.

The use of several columns in a Search Window let me see the Hebrew, the Greek and sometimes certain English translations all in a glance. Countless hours were saved by the quick search capacity of Accordance. Some of the reference tools were also found indispensable. The outlines and bibliographies of articles in the Anchor Bible Dictionary were a great help and saved me the need to spend hours in libraries.”

Since its publication in 2006, The Sacred Bridge has been acclaimed as a landmark achievement. The new Accordance edition now promises to make this first-rate work of scholarship instantly accessible and easily searchable.

“The Sacred Bridge is far more than your typical Bible Atlas,” explains David Lang, Vice President of Development for Accordance Bible Software. “Its arguments are based on the latest archaeological findings and the best available ancient texts and inscriptions, but professors Rainey and Notley don’t merely summarize their sources. Instead, they include the relevant passages from ancient texts along with careful translations, enabling the reader to evaluate those sources directly. We are extremely proud that our software was helpful in the production of this Atlas, and incredibly excited to be able to offer The Sacred Bridge to other Accordance users.”

The Accordance edition of the Sacred Bridge is one of a collection of thirteen resources from Carta, Israel’s leading publisher of maps, atlases, and books on Biblical history and geography. Each book in the collection is richly illustrated with maps, photographs, and artistic reconstructions, and all of these images are included in the Accordance Bible Software editions. Each book can be purchased separately, and there are several cost-saving bundles available. For details, see http://www.accordancebible.com/buzz/articles/The-Carta-Collection.

Dead Sea Scrolls Biblical Manuscripts Now Available for Accordance Bible Software (Nov 8, 2007)

Altamonte Springs, FL—November 2007—OakTree Software, Inc. is pleased to announce the release of the Dead Sea Scrolls Biblical Manuscripts for use with Accordance Bible Software.

At the annual meetings of the Society of Biblical Literature, November 16-20, 2007, OakTree will release the Dead Sea Scrolls Biblical Manuscripts, in electronic databases for Accordance.

These important new Accordance modules (DSSB-C and DSSB-M) represent the entire Hebrew and Aramaic corpus of the biblical scrolls found in the Judean Desert between 1947 and today. They include not only Qumran, but also Masada, Nahal Hever, Murabba’at, etc. The transcription and format faithfully follow the text of the official publication series, The Discoveries in the Judaean Desert (Oxford, 1955—) and other related publications.

Over three years in preparation, the DSSB-C presents every manuscript in canonical order, so that every witness to each verse can be compared at once and with any other version such as the Masoretic or Samaritan text, or the English translation of the Dead Sea Scrolls Bible. The DSSB-M presents the texts in manuscript order and can be used in parallel with the Qumran Index module. Both modules include complete lexical and morphological analysis, and English glosses, facilitating searches for different forms of words, and for grammatical constructions. They are completely integrated into Accordance and hypertext to the Hebrew and Aramaic lexicons, and to any other available Accordance resources. Advanced search and analysis capabilities allow the user to create and customize graphic and textual presentations of the search results.

Martin G. Abegg, Jr., James E. Bowley, and Edward M. Cook are responsible for preparing the text and morphological analysis for electronic publication. Abegg is The Ben Zion Wacholder Professor of Dead Sea Scroll studies at Trinity Western University in Langley, British Columbia. He earned his Ph.D. from Hebrew Union College in Cincinnati, Ohio and wrote his dissertation on the War Scroll from Qumran Cave 1 under the supervision of Professor Ben Zion Wacholder. His areas of academic expertise are the Dead Sea Scrolls, Syriac Language and Literature, and Hebrew Bible. Abegg is the author of numerous scholarly articles related to scroll research, and has contributed to or co-edited several important works on the Dead Sea Scrolls, including: The Dead Sea Scrolls Concordance, vol. I (with J. Bowley and E. Cook); The Dead Sea Scrolls: A New Translation (with M. Wise and E. Cook); and The Dead Sea Scrolls Bible (with P. Flint and E. Ulrich). Abegg also contributed to the official publication series of the Dead Sea Scrolls. Abegg’s work with electronic data bases is extensive, having prepared the QUMRAN, MISH-T, SAMAR-T, and BENSIRA-C/M Accordance modules for the study of ancient Hebrew Language and Literature.

The royalties from this publication are being donated to the Dead Sea Scrolls Foundation to support future research.

Endorsement by Emanuel Tov:
“This excellent research and study tool allows the user to search for all the words and grammatical categories in the biblical manuscripts from the Judean Desert, both by biblical book and by manuscript. It allows for analysis of both individual scrolls or groups of scrolls. The details of the professional morphological analysis and English glosses of the Hebrew/Aramaic words are visible at the click of a mouse. With the advantage of having the wording of the official publications at your disposal and with the flexible possibilities of the Accordance program (such as custom-made concordances, graphic distribution charts, and a comparison of the scrolls with any text, such as the Masoretic Text) one cannot wish for a better tool for the study and research of the Dead Sea Scrolls, both of the biblical and non-biblical texts.”

Prof. Emanuel Tov
Editor-in-Chief, International Dead Sea Scrolls Publication Project

The Dead Sea Scrolls Biblical Manuscripts modules can be added to Accordance for $150. The Dead Sea Scrolls Bible translation is available for $40.

Oxford Press says: “The Jewish Study Bible presents the center of gravity of the Scriptures where Jews experience it (i.e., in Torah). It offers readers the fruits of various schools of Jewish traditions of biblical exegesis (rabbinic, medieval, mystical, etc.) and provides them with extensive supplementary materials that aid in bringing the ancient text to life. The nearly forty contributors to the Jewish Study Bible represent the cream of Jewish biblical scholarship from the world over. No knowledge of Hebrew is required for one to make use of this unique volume.”

The JSB’s content reflects both contemporary biblical scholarship and the richness of Jewish tradition. Anyone interested in acquiring a fuller understanding of the riches of the Bible will benefit from reading the Jewish Study Bible.

This exciting new module has been posted for download for $35. It is also available for unlock from the Jewish Collection 4 CD-ROM.
