Our children and the children of my wife’s sister are roughly the same age, so sleepovers are usually arranged such that all the boy cousins stay at one house while the girl cousins stay at the other. This past weekend, our boys spent the night at their cousins’ house while one of the girl cousins spent the night with our girls. I generally prefer to have the boys, because when we have all girls, I am forced to watch movies I might otherwise avoid. This time, it was The Hannah Montana Movie.

Hannah MontanaIf you’re not familiar with Hannah Montana, it is a sitcom about a teenage girl who enjoys rock music stardom under the guise of the altar ego “Hannah Montana.” By donning a wig before going on stage, she is able to enjoy fame and fortune while preserving her anonymity and experiencing life as a “normal teenager.” Her theme song celebrates this split-personality as giving her the “best of both worlds.”

What does this have to do with Accordance? Well, according to the Ligonier blog:

Accordance appears to be focused on trying to achieve the best of both worlds [that is, focusing on original languages on the one hand and providing an extensive digital library on the other]

So there you have it. Accordance is the Hannah Montana of Bible software, offering users the “best of both worlds.” For an excellent example of that, consider the slew of upcoming releases we recently announced.

On the high end Greek and Hebrew front, there’s the Göttingen Septuagint, the unabridged Liddell & Scott Greek lexicon, and a series of important Rabbinic Texts. On the digital library front, there are the 49 volume Tyndale Old and New Testament Commentaries, the 32 volume Holman Old and New Testament Commentaries, a new series of Spanish language resources, and a new Swedish Bible. And those are just the projects we’re willing to tell you about right now; there’s much more in the pipeline.

So if you want the best of both worlds—the ability to study Greek and Hebrew without a degree in computer science, along with an ever-expanding library of digital study aids—Accordance is your Biblical studies pop-star.
