How to Back Up Accordance (Windows/macOS)

August 20, 2018 - Richard Mansfield — Ever had that sinking feeling in the pit of your stomach when you try to open an extremely important file you absolutely know was there, but now it’s not? All that work—hours upon hours—gone; and no matter what you try, you can’t get it back! I first experienced this dreaded shock back around 1988, when I overwrote a floppy disk that had important data on it. Since then, I’ve been backup paranoid. I probably over-back up, so I am not necessarily recommending that you do what I do. I have a local external hard drive that serves as my primary ...

This shift has implications for the task of interpreting the Bible from within our respective contexts, which is in ...

When Greek Facts Prove False

August 01, 2018 - David Lang — In my last post, I argued that the practical value of learning Greek and Hebrew becomes readily apparent when dealing with situations where careful exegesis of the biblical text is absolutely necessary, such as "[arriving] at a clear position on the latest theological controversy." Not long after writing that post, I stumbled across a timely example. In an interview with Christianity Today, the founder of a conference on issues of sexuality made the following claim: One way would be to say that eros is not intrinsically sexual. It’s never how ...

NEW! Gospel According to the Old Testament (18 volumes)

July 30, 2018 - Richard Mansfield — “'Did not the Messiah have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?' And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.” (Luke 24:26–27, NIV) Back in the early nineties, I remember sitting in a seminary class where I made a comment about the above passage, “I wish I had a recording of that entire discussion.” The professor said that while we obviously don’t have a recording of Jesus' original exposition of the Old Testament (the entirety of the Scriptures at the ...

Who's Afraid of Big Bad Greek? (or Hebrew!)

July 27, 2018 - David Lang — Are you a seminary student about to take your first classes in Greek and/or Hebrew? For many, learning the Bible's original languages can seem incredibly daunting. You may have talked to a pastor or other seminary graduate who has shared horror stories about their language classes. They may also have told you that they now remember little of what they worked so hard to learn. They may even have told you that they never really needed the languages in their actual day-to-day ministry, and that they wish their seminary had offered more practical ...

Apollos is both eloquent and competent in his understanding of the Scriptures—which at this time would have only referred to the Old Testament. Moreover, Apollos knows how to apply this ...
