A Theological Panorama Sale

April 19, 2016 - Accordance Bible Software — The New Oxford American Dictionary defines theology as "the study of the nature of God and religious belief." If we combine this very broad definition with the ancient precept that "God is mystery," we begin to understand why the last word on theology is yet to be written. Well-respected Arminian scholar, Roger Olson, brings a very important contribution to this ongoing discussion in four theological titles that we are releasing this week for the Accordance Library. Olson considers both historical and modern voices in these ...

The Power of Accordance Mobile with iOS Split View

April 18, 2016 - Richard Mansfield — Our release of Accordance Mobile 2.3 in February was a major update that took full advantage of new iOS 9 features. One of the major updates we featured was iOS Split View that allows Accordance to run side-by-side with another app on the devices that can support this.* In February, I showed off a screenshot of Accordance Mobile on the left and the Mellel word processor on the right. In Mellel, I displayed a paper I wrote years ago for a class (click or tap the image to the right to see a larger view) as a kind of "proof of concept" f ...

Olson is known for his even-handed treatment of theological issues, earning the respect of even those whose convictions differ from his. Regardless of whether you claim the title of Arminian or Calvinist—or perhaps neither or something else—you will want to read Olson’s take on some of the most important theological issues in history. ...

NEW! Watson's Hebrew/Greek Word for the Day

April 11, 2016 - Richard Mansfield — Bible devotions are a great way to start the day. Some offer a nice reflective thought to orient one’s thoughts toward more spiritual matters in light of the day’s necessary routines. Sometimes, though, many devotional titles tend to fall a bit on the “lite” side. That is, while their content may be doctrinally sound, they might just leave the reader wishing for a bit more theological depth. If you would like to take your devotions to the next level, consider joining J. D. Watson to explore a Hebrew or Greek word each day. In two v ...

This title, part of the JPS Bible Commentary series, offers the most thorough current examination of the haggadah tradition. The haggadah (הַגָּדָה‎ “telling”) is a Jewish text that can be traced back to the Mishna, if not earlier, prescribing the order of the Passover Seder. In the foreword to The JPS Commentary on the Haggadah, David Stern comments, “ ...
