Λύχνις Δαν
Hi ya, The issue here is a bit broader but the specific example of the LSJ is easier to explain and perhaps someone can tell me whether what I want is possible or not. I was looking at an entry in LSJ this morning. δοκῐμάζω as it turns out. Anyhow the initial text in the entry in LSJ is this : δοκῐμάζω, (δόκιμος) assay, test, πορφύραν καὶ χρυσόν Isoc.12.39; τοὺς οἴνους So I was curious about πορφύραν so I triple clicked on it and two things happened : 1. A new tab for the LSJ opened. This was interesting because I learnt the finer points of triple click that I had not known before. That if the first lex. in the list does not contain the word a search of all is done. 2. The search in the new LSJ tab was done for Greek Content not Greek Entry. On point 1 I had rather expected (for no good reason really) that it would conduct the search in the current tab. I'm pretty sure this is simply not how amplify searches are done in Acc., ie. they always open a new tab. But I wondered if there was a way to do it. I mean presumably I could just c & p the word to the search box and hit return, but this is a multi-step process. Is there a quick way to do that ? On point 2 is there a way to have a Greek word on triple click search in the lex. for a Greek Entry rather than content ? Is this simply that Acc. is choosing to search the broadest category to permit selection of multiple words or .... I couldn't find any relevant prefs. or keyboard shortcuts. Λύχνις Δαν
So having now read (and/or re-read) a bunch of amplify doc I now see that the how the search is done in the tool amplified to is determined by Acc. itself. I don't for example see a way to do amplify to tool (eg. lex) and search field bla. In my example above if I select text from the content of the entry I get a content search in the amplified to tool. If I select an entry headword I get an entry search in the amplified to text. As to the new tab that's again just how amplify does things. I don't see a pref. controlling this. Seems to make sense now though I'm not sure I wouldn't like a tweak or two. Opinions, comments anyone ? ThxD
Helen Brown
You are almost correct. Accordance always amplifies to another tab, but it reuses a tab if the recycling is on (which is the default if it was opened by amplifying), if it is set to the same module, and if the other conditions such as the search field (Entry, Contents, Scripture, etc.) are the ones it needs. However, when you amplify or use the Search (add the button to the toolbar, use Search Current Resource in Amplify menu, or Search Word in right-click menu) it always searches the Entry field first. It only goes to Content in this case, because there is no Entry for that word. Accordance continues searching through the fields of the correct language until it finds a hit. I hope this helps. Joel Brown
A quick note, you can select a word and type Command-Option-F for the "Search within this resource" option.
Λύχνις Δαν
Thx Joel. That seems to be a sort of quick amplify to the same resource but not the same tab. So just like the regular amplify it will open a new tab for each type of field that is searched, or at least that's what my quick test shows. So am I right in assuming there is no search-within-current-tab-for-my-selection option ? Thx D
Joel Brown
As far as I know, you are correct. Except for the copy/paste method to the entry box. I believe the logic is so that you don't lose wherever you are currently working.
Λύχνις Δαν
OK thanx - its these idomatic things underlying any UI that once appreciated make using a tool much more profitable. Many thanx to you both. thx D
