Pseudepigrapha Help (PSEUD vs. PSEUD-E in Instant Details)

I'm reading one of the essays in Eerdmans Dictionary of Early Judaism right now. (By the way, I have wanted this for a long time and waited for a long time and finally got it in Accordance--really glad I did, in case anyone is on the fence.)

There is a hyperlinked reference to Jubilees 1:4, which when I click on, says the hyperlink can't be shown because "the module PSEUD-E is not installed."

PSEUD-E is Dr. Craig Evans's "New English" translation, yes?

I do have PSEUD (Charles) installed, which of course has Jubilees 1:4 in it. PSEUD actually installs into my Accordance as PSEUD1, PSEUD2, and PSEUD3.

It seems like there ought to be a simple fix to this that I'm just missing--is there a way to re-direct my Accordance (both on a laptop and in iOS) to look up that passage in PSEUD, since I don't have PSEUD-E? Or is the command to look up in PSEUD-E programmed into the Dictionary tool I'm using?

I believe that PSEUD-E was selected because the versification in the Pseudepigrapha is so variable that it was impossible to coordinate with Charles.

Are there any hyperlink workarounds for someone owning PSEUD?

Instant details for links from PSEUD-E don't work (for me) either, by the way.

I can force the matter by clicking on the hyperlinks for PSEUD-E references and then it pops up in a new pane.

The behavior is identical for PHILO-E as well. :(

Chuck--do you mean you have PSEUD-E and the ID don't work for it? Buying PSEUD-E for such instances had crossed my mind...

Just tried to see if I could use PSEUD as an alternate text in the Tool Display Preferences, but looks like extra-biblical modules are excluded from selection in the drop-down menu. (Even if they weren't excluded, because of PSEUD being split up into 1, 2, and 3, I don't know how useful that would be anyway, to just have one alternate text.)

Helen, or anyone on Accordance staff, is there a way to re-direct my Accordance to look up a hyperlink in PSEUD instead of PSEUD-E, or is that a level of programming a user can't access?

Yes. The Instant Details don't appear, but if I click on the hyperlink, it opens a new pane with my PSEUD-E reference. It's the same with PHILO-E.

Instant Details only works for Biblical references in tools. The clickable links to other texts work to open a new tab, but do not display in Instant Details.

Interestingly enough, Abram, there are several hyperlinks for PSEUD that work in the comprehensive crossrefs. For example, the 1Enoch 69:26-29 reference (for John 5:27) links to PSEUD and not to PSEUD-E. Also, 2Baruch 18:2 and 2Enoch 46:3 link to PSEUD and not to PSEUD-E (in the reference for John 5:35).

I've even found an example where the first (Aristobulus Fragment 4:5) and second (Orphica E and T 31) references link to PSEUD-E and the third (Sibylline Oracles 8.476) links to PSEUD. The fourth (Sibylline Oracles 12.30) is broken:

“Pseudepigrapha, Aristobulus Fragment 4:5, Orphica E and T 31; Sibylline Oracles 8.476, Sibylline Oracles 12.30”

Matthew 2:2 (Paragraph 14710), Comprehensive Crossrefs v1.0

Interesting, Chuck--I wonder if those links to PSEUD, then (based on what Helen said) are either bugs or leftovers from something perhaps in place before PSEUD-E?

I'm still looking for an answer to this, if anyone knows: Is there a way to re-direct my Accordance to look up a hyperlink in PSEUD instead of PSEUD-E, or is that a level of programming a user can't access? It sounds like the latter is true, but if the former is true, I'd love to know how to make the change.

You cannot select which text is opened in a link like that; it is specified in the module.

Pseudepigrapha is a complex matter with no easy solution. The pecking order for how we write the links is Evans (PSEUD-E), then Charles (PSEUD). Evans includes more books, but only translations of Greek portions. Charles includes some books not in Evans. So we have had to write links sometimes to both modules.

We will be releasing Charlesworth later this Fall, so will then have a third version, but the most authoritative one. My goal is to discuss with the app developers a better solution that will allow users to view the links if they have a supported module. Until then, you must have the version written in the link in order to view it. If you have that version and the link does not work, then it is an error that can be reported.

I hope this helps…
