Steven van der Hoeven
I am searching for verses in John speaking about "everlasting life", but without the Greek word "aionion" coupled to "zoen". Therefore I've set up a simple Greek construct search, as can seen in the screenshot. In John 3:36 a hit with "aionion" is found, since "zoen" is written twice. But when I click search both directions the construct seems to loose it's original set-up, giving all verses with "zoen aionion". Perhaps I don't understand the construct search philosophy, but this looks weird to me. (A standard search in the search bar gives the results without any problem.) Thanks. Joel Brown
"Search Both Directions" is in a sense a "this direction" "that direction" command. So, in your search, you are finding when zoen isn't followed by aionion, or when zoen isn't preceded by aionion. So, you are in a sense canceling out all the hits except for ones where it is sandwiched in between What you want is a construct with the aionion negated on both sides. And remember, if you want adjacent words, use a WITHIN 1 connecting bubble.
