Anthony Sepulveda
Hello, I was just wondering if there's some quick way to make a "diff" of two or more lists of bible verse references, identifying which among the references are common and which are unique to each. Thanks, --anthony
Helen Brown
Yes, the [CONTENTS] command, used in a third tab, such as: [CONTENTS tab1] [CONTENTS tab2] [CONTENTS tab1] [CONTENTS tab2] etc.
Ken Simpson
Hi Helen, I had never thought of doing this, but when I do this between Prov 1 and Prov 2 in the ESVS text - with the <AND> I get no hits. I create 1 tab in ESVS (ESVS 1) with Prov 1 as the verse search, then another tab with (ESVS 2) with Prov 2 as the verse search I make a third tab and put [HITS ESVS 1] <AND> [HITS ESVS 2] and I get no hits Similarly if I use * <AND> [RANGE Prov 1] with * <and> [RANGE Prov 2] I get no hits, yet there are clearly identical words. What am I doing wrong?
Helen Brown
CONTENTS works between two lists of verses such as two search results in the same or in different versions. When you use two CONTENTS it looks to see whether the verse references are in common or which are found in the one and not in the other. It isn't looking at the verses themselves, just the lists of references. If you want to compare the vocabulary of two chapters you need: tab1 with: * [RANGE Prov 1] to find all the words tab2 with: [HITS tab1] [RANGE Prov 2] to find common words or tab2 with: *@-[HITS tab1] [RANGE Prov 2] to find new words in chapter 2 note that with 10.4 you are no longer required to have the when you use the RANGE command. Anthony Sepulveda
Thank you very much for these examples. Definitely not the kind of thing I would see in basic tutorials.
Ken Simpson
Ah I see. The CONTENTS reply was about diff'ing a list of verses. My question was looking at common vocab so I misdirected myself. Thanks Helen. Seeing your example reminded me I did know how to do that!
