basic scrolling option

I've been using Accordance on a Mac for many years and it's my favorite bible software. Thank you for it. The feature I'd most like to see is the option to scroll through texts and tools using the basic scrolling feature which other bible programs like OliveTree, Logos, and others use by default:

simply place the cursor anywhere in the pane and then press the up/down arrows to move the text forward/back by only one line at a time. That is, no matter where the cursor is in the pane, the up/down arrows will move the text forward or back a line, without having to move the cursor to the top or bottom of the pane. Could this feature be added as option in the preferences?

I find this method much smoother to read than the current set-up, which requires us to move the cursor to the bottom/top of the pane first in order to move the text forward/back, and then moves the text by several lines. (Also Mac OSX no longer has double-scroll-arrows for vertical scrolling (in Mavericks at least), so even that method of incremental scrolling is no longer available.)

Could my suggestion be considered for a future release?

Anthony, we'll keep this in mind, but remember that you can do Command-Up and Down arrow to go up and down one verse at a time. Not 100% exactly what you are looking for, but this may be close enough.

thanks Joel for considering it. Command up/down in texts is a nice feature, though I was looking for a way to go up/down by one line of text, rather than up/down by a whole verse, which often spans several lines of text. Similarly for tools, since I find it much easier to read through sections of a book by one-line increments.

  • 1 year later...

Related to scrolling more generally....

Am I missing something or does the scrolling to the end of any pane lead to unending while space...? Shouldn't it stop with the text? If I want to go the bottom of a text or analysis I want to go to the end of written text not to white space.

Thanks!

It shouldn’t take you to “unending white space” but it will keep scrolling until the last line of text is at the top of the pane. That is designed, since the top line of text is the one that our parallel resources are synchronised to.
