The Shanghai Syndrome with Accordance Help

Recommended Posts

When one is composing on this forum a post, then one opens one's Accordance program to check something in Accordance Help via the program, one finds that while one is taken to a help page, one loses the posting page, one is booted off the Accordance Forum altogether.

I was making a request on this forum about Instant Details and decided to consult Accordance help on Instant Details in the midst of making a post here. But after I read the help info, I found that I had been Shanghaied off the forum and had to open it again with a Safari.

I am thinking that this is a bug; consulting Accordance Help during a post here should not exit the forum.

Thanks for fixing this in advance.

This is more likely a browser configuration issue.

When I click on Accordance help I get a new browser tab open. What browser do you use ?

thx

most often Safari.

With Safari, if you press Command-N you get a new window & don't lose the old.

I am thinking that when one accesses Accordance Help via the Accordance program in one's computer,

if Accordance is then going to open your browser for you to bring up its on-line help (apparently not resident in one's computer for some reason), Accordance should also do it with a new window.

Am I correct that if one is off-line (DSL down) one cannot access the Accordance help function in one's computer?

In other words, it seems to me that if Accordance can open your browser without your real time permission, it should be able to open it in a new window (i.e., send the command-N signal itself).

Or do I misunderstand?

Ah ok - I use Firefox.

You do not need to be online to access the help. The browser is directed to a local filesystem URL when you click Help in the Acc menu.

In Safari preferences there is an option on the Tabs configuration which is called "Open pages in tabs instead of windows". I have this set to Automatically. I also have "CMD-click opens link in a new tab" checked and also "When a new tab or window opens, make it active".

This combination should I think cause the Acc help to open in a new tab and shift focus to that tab. At that point you can look up what you want and then click back to the forum tab. That's more or less what I do in cases like those you describe, though of course I do it in Firefox but the principle is the same.

Thx

I just tried it with chrome and got a new "tab" with Accordance help. This page was still in it's own "tab" and I clicked on it to make this post.

Hi Enoch

I use safari and it opens a new tab for Accordance help. I just tried it while writing this and I did not lose this page. Did you access the help from the Accordance program?
