If I type or paste a verse reference with an en dash (Opt--), the dash and the following character change to Times New Roman font, like this: 1 Cor 1:12–13. Also, it reformats any existing references like this when I edit a note. This happens quite frequently, since Opt-Cmd-R now copies ranges using an en dash.
