Martti
Currently, Accordance can use Mac's "computer-man" to read the modules. However, I'd love to see this feature improved. Many companies are offering programs that are supposed to read the text given to them. The samples I have listened to around the internet were rather impressing. I am inquireing of the possibility to integrate a real-human-voice-synthetisator to Accordance.
Peter Brylov Christensen
Hi Martti! This has been discussed before in other threads, mainly the ones by Darin Franklin, Lorinda Hoover and myself. Here are the links: http://www.accordancebible.com/forums/topic/14429-hebrew-audio-bible-for-accordance http://www.accordancebible.com/forums/topic/13734-more-speech-options/ http://www.accordancebible.com/forums/topic/13731-bibles-and-possibly-other-texts-read-aloud/ My guess is that it'll be a while before this kind of feature will be implemented, but I can't say for sure, of course. The problem with using the Mac's own voices is that they aren't geared for reading Greek with diacritics other than acute and diaresis, and a voice for Hebrew doesn't even exist at the moment. But a lot of webpages have audio recordings of the Bible, though, some of which I'm currently using as a work around: For the Old Testament, mechon-mamre.org has audio files for the entire Hebrew Text, which is pretty great. The pronunciation is Sephardic Hebrew: http://www.mechon-mamre.org/p/pt/pt0.htmFor the New Testament, two webpages come to mind - Daniel Semler mentioned them a while back: http://www.biblicallanguagecenter.com/books-products/koine-greek/ http://www.letsreadgreek.com/resources/greekntaudio.htm The last webpage is particularly noteworthy as it has an entire list of different recordings of the New Testament Books. Martti
Hi Pchris! Thank you for your reply, I actually tried to search for topics this kind but could not find. Thank you for those. Actually, I was not thinking Bibles at all. I read a lot, and therefore it would be wonderful to have "someone" to read for me because my eyes grow weary. For example, Anchor Bible Dictionary has some wonderful articles in it – if those could be read in some way by computer (which doesn't sound like a robot), ahh, that would be great!
Peter Brylov Christensen
I can relate to what you're saying - Before I began studying theology around 7 years ago, I had perfect vision, but now I need to wear glasses whenever I have to read. As for the Mac being able to read English texts more fluently without sounding like a robot would be a great feature. Right now it is more of a novelty.
