Acc doesn't go to last session

Hi,

I’m migrating a major part of my workflow to this MacBook. So, I’m setting my Preferences in Acc, including my Startup to Last Session.

When I open the Hebrew Bible and triple click at random to get the CDCH, I get a screen like this:

But, after I quit and restart Acc, I get this, sometimes with two ID windows, one underneath the other.

I hope I’m doing something wrong that you could point out. Otherwise, I’m starting to lose heart over all these recent problems with Acc, over all the lost productivity time, and over the time it takes to send bug reports.

I wonder if there is a bug in the Preferences menus in 11.0.7. My problems in both OSs started after I set all my preference in Windows, and after I set only a few in OS X. Based on my Windows experience yesterday, I thought I’d enter my preferences a few at a time and open and close Acc to see if they/Acc worked.

Btw, every other program on this Mac works. I’m writing this on my Mac with Office 365, and I just learned how to take a screenshot with Preview. Even the much-maligned Logos in Mac is working perfectly for me.

I wonder whether you are quitting Accordance by closing the windows. On Mac this leaves the program open. Accordance records the last session as those windows that are open when you quit, from the Accordance menu, from the dock menu, or with command-Q, or with a shutdown or restart.

If you would like to schedule some screenshare time with one of us, we can help you find the things that are interrupting your work flow.

Hi,

I’m new to Mac and relatively new to Acc. So, when I said I hope I’m doing something wrong, your suggestions were the exact kind of things I had in mind. But, in this case it is one of the few things I know, and I tried both last night.

Anyways, to be sure, I tried both ways again this morning. I have no idea why, but it is working better. This is what I did:

I shut down last night, restarted this am, opened Acc, opened the HB, quit from Accordance > Quit Accordance, opened Acc, and got my Last Session with two Instant Detail’s windows.

Then, I hit the red button to exit, opened Acc and got this:

Then I experimented and quit from this screen with Accordance > Quit Accordance, opened Acc, and got this:

I’m not sure if you want to look into the double ID as a bug. It’s easy to click the ID icon twice to get rid of these two windows.

But, I’ve had many experiences like the one last night and this morning, i.e., Acc doesn’t always act in predictable ways. I’ve had dozens of experiences like Susan described at

http://www.accordancebible.com/forums/topic/16370-bug-entering-hebrew-in-go-to-search-box-in-1107/#entry79983, “occasionally while attempting to use the invisible-text word finder, I see parts of large Latin letters, or sometimes a run of whole tiny ones, and other times bits of some other script I can’t make out” (italics mine). I mean that with different parts of the program I often get unpredictable results. So what appears to be a bug one day disappears the next. Since this happens on different computers after fresh installs of an OS and Acc, I don’t think they are due to disk errors.

Anyways, I’m not as disheartened, and I thank you for that.

On another note, I’d like to ask about reinstalls. I’m the kind of person who will reinstall Acc or other programs many times in different OSs on different computers to see what works best, sometimes after catastrophic fails, all within the license agreement, e.g., recent attempts with remote desktop software on this MacBook followed by blue screens of death and several reinstalls. I already got the message once, "Your account has been used too many times to activate Accordance." Will I get this message again soon, or does Acc know which computers I have it on? Re my problem on my W10 Home computer, I’m waiting for Acc 11.0.8, and if that doesn’t help, I’ll probably reinstall, and if that doesn’t work, revert back to Win 8.1, which will either require another reactivation or reinstall.

Thank you.

Regards,

Michel

There is a counter for activations, but if you run over we'll reset it for you, as long as your explanations are reasonable. We have picked up some illegal sharing, and we do owe it to the publishers to take reasonable precautions to protect their rights.

You mentioned that you "hit the red button to exit, opened Acc..." On a Mac, the red button doesn't close the app as it does in Windows. It simply closes the windows. To quit the app you always must go to "Accordance" on the menu bar and select "Quit Accordance" (or use Command-Q). I'd recommend closing every workspace in Accordance, then opening a new workspace and prepare it as you'd like it. Then quit Accordance from the Application menu (or by using Command-Q) and reopen.

. . . and those of their authors, such as myself. I couldn’t agree more.

Thanks
