Abram K-J
I know this has been requested before, but I'm wondering now with 2.x being out for a while, if the developers and Mobile team would consider it: Right now it takes two taps to highlight text. I'd love to see the initial pop-up menu show your most recent highlight (so "Recent" next to "Highlight," for example), so that when I'm reading through a book in Accordance and highlighting my way, I can save a bunch of taps over the course of reading and highlighting. Or... I really do like the zero-tap option of Kindle, where you arbitrarily select text and it highlights be default--but you can tap again to perform other functions. I think I've heard the reasons against the zero-tap option, but would at least love to be able to highlight with just one tap, after selecting text. Thanks for considering the request!
Rick Bennett
I'm a big proponent of 'active highlighting' (my definition at least) where highlighting can be more like a kindle or iBooks model. The difficulty is interaction with Instant Details. It's on the list. One feature we implemented a little while back that helps with this is the ability to select text with two fingers, e.g. like a block of text using your index finger and thumb. This will bring up the edit menu and allow you to select highlight from there. It's a bit faster than have to drag the selection handles each time.
Abram K-J
Thanks, Rick--I do like that two finger feature! I make pretty good use of it, and never knew it was possible on iOS until you mentioned it a while back.
Abram K-J
I was thinking about this again today--am I remembering correctly that in Accordance Mobile 1.x "Clear" (for Clear Highlight) was not among the initial options coming up after a single tap? Is there room to add just the text of "Recent" to engage the most recent highlight? I know that menu already has a lot of options on it, and have no idea how hard programming it in would be. (Sort of a mobile equivalent to the CMD-8 you can do on the desktop to highlight using last highlight style.)
Timothy Jenney
I wonder what changes Apple's new variable touch feature will allow us to add to Accordance Mobile down the road.
hayesy
Just want to add a huge +1 to this feature request. I really love Accordance, but this is one area where Logos has the upper hand. I do a lot of my reading on my iPad, and their app makes it a lovely experience:- page turning, - able to turn on highlighting so that you can just drag your finger and it highlights the text you dragged - a range of highlights (which look natural and beautiful) and underlines - nice typography So when I recommend bible software to people, I tell them to get Accordance... but I do say that if reading on their iPad is important, Logos is a nicer place to read. I'd love to be able to stop saying that. (Plus it would make a difference to me as I study!) The difficulty is interaction with Instant Details. It's on the list. The way Kindle and Logos get around this feels very intuitive to me, it's what I would assume my fingers would do: If you press and hold on a single word, it assumes you want 'instant details' (or their version thereof)... though with the options also to copy, highlight etc But when you press and hold on a word, then drag your finger, it instantly begins selecting words until you release. Then it automatically assumes you intended to highlight that selection and highlights it. If you didn't want to highlight it but rather copy it, or some other action, you just tap on the newly highlighted bit and options come up. It remembers what colour highlighter you were using and doesn't ask you each time, but if you want to change colour it is simple to tap on the highlighted bit and 'change colour' is one of the options. I read a fair bit in Logos and Kindle and this has always felt very quick, natural and unintrusive to me. By contrast, highlighting and even selecting a phrase etc have always felt quite slow and clumsy on Accordance. I love the app. Thankful for the work the Developers have put into it. This is the #1 thing that I'd like to see with the app
