Im having trouble getting accordance to go split screen (so I can have accordance on one side, and note taking app on the other side).

I can do it without split screen (i.e. drag them manually to be about half of the size of the screen each), but obviously split screen is way easier and saves screen space.

So what am I missing, is there some trick to it?

I believe its listed as as future feature...

Meanwhile many users including myself recommend 'bettersnaptool'.  It's a very versatile little utility that will let you split apps or place them anywhere or any monitor.

I, too, use BetterSnap Tool and prefer it to the Mac Spit Screen.

Yes, but let's be clear what BetterSnap tool does is not equivalent to Multitasking. Please program Accordance to comply with the Mac OS X base features. I'd like Multi-tasking as well.

Hey Michael,

Neither as far as I know is Split Screen depending upon what you mean by multi-tasking. But if by Multi-tasking you mean the ability to lay out multiple apps fully visible on the same screen BST is a superior tool at this point.

So what do you mean by multi-tasking ?

Thx

I disagree for BetterSnap tool only resizes the windows to a side-by-side arrangement which is not in full screen mode. Here, I am using the definition of Multi-tasking in the sense that OS X has decided for when you put two applications in the Multi-tasking state. Do you not recognize that the two applications are full screen, can be resized by using the middle bar, etc.? You really want to say that two adjacent windows is superior to this? Go ahead, but you also must recognize the clear difference between these two actions.

Multitasking is the completely wrong word for the concept of split screen display on OSX.

Ah ok Michael - thanx - yep not what I would call multi-tasking at all.

I didn't realise that you could resize both windows left to right with the central bar, that were both essentially full screen. I don't actually use full screen mode virtually at all on the Mac - don't like the way it works I'm afraid. In addition BST supports more than two apps, which is useful on a large display. The reason I like BST is that I can have the apps side by side and I don't need to mess with their sizes at all.

Thx

D

Well, as far as I know, multitasking has no objective definition. You clearly understood my point and you clearly can see your application does not integrate with Mac OS X in way that some Mac OS X users would like to use it. Fix it.

What is surprising to me is that Accordance claims a 20 year tradition programming for the Mac platform, yet even some of the recent Mac OS X feature updates are lacking in Accordance. Ask me to name some, I will supply a list for you like I did last time.

Thanks. Sounds like a tool some people might like. Im more interested in a split full screen mode. It saves space on smaller monitors, giving you more working area.

Michael: The Accordance developers are nearing completion of the massive task of bringing all the 20+ year code up to date and making it fully Cocoa. Once that task is completed, implementation of new features and new Mac OS options will be easier and faster. The fact is that we decided to use Carbon initially for OS X so that we could bring all the Classic functionality into OS X as quickly as possible, and also maintain compatibility with Classic. Other companies, such as Nisus, basically had nothing to offer for years while they rewrote their code for OS X, while we continued to support our users.

We are not a large company, and our development team is not numbered in the hundreds. We do appreciate your suggestions. Many of your ideas are good and will certainly be considered along with our ongoing list of improvements that users have requested and developers have planned already. However, we must ask you to be patient as not everything can be accomplished in the immediate future. Some changes that seem very simple actually involve complex programming, especially to ensure that they do not adversely impact other features and functions.

However, your critical tone has invoked some negative responses, and I would ask you to moderate it in order to keep our forums a pleasant space for everyone. You are, of course, free to disagree with the opinions of others, just please watch the underlying tone and impression that you give.

The news is really exciting!

Thanks for all the effort you have done, though I have totally no idea about coding.

Looking forward to the updating!

Accordance is not yet using Cocoa, that explains it. Happy to hear work is in progress!

Thanks, I look forward to it. (Although not so much the fact that such a large overhaul will assumedly be a major, not minor release when it does come.)

Wondering if there are any updates on a timeframe for split screen implementation?  While others may not like it, some of us do and would love to be able to take advantage of this functionality.

Thanks!

David, it's coming in Accordance 11.2, which is currently in beta testing.

EDIT: I should clarify that it's probably coming in 11.2. Anything in beta may always be delayed until a later release if it proves problematic in testing. However, I would guess that the chances are pretty good for the split screen feature.
