Hebrew and English in User Notes

I am trying to type both English and Hebrew in my user notes, and it is not working properly. I am typing along in a line in English, then change my mac keyboard to Hebrew (command + spacebar). The font in User Notes changes to Yehudit. I then try to type something in Hebrew, and the first letter attaches itself to the last English word, it adds a space, and then the subsequent letters of the Hebrew word are sometimes fine after that space. In this case, I typed "testing אב" and got this:

If I try to delete the first letter that has attached itself to the English word, it often messes up the English word and changes whatever the previous letter was in English into a Hebrew character. 

 

It also randomly changes the font size of both the Hebrew and the English, and I can't seem to figure out why. 

 

Can anyone help me sort out what is going on here, and how to type English, then Hebrew, and then English in a line without these major problems?
