Thanks for the 20% off offer.  Needless to say I picked up three things that had been on my "wish list."

You'll find the photos in BAR to be of better quality (specifically in the newer issues) than the ones in Biblical World in Pictures. And that wasn't us--we worked with what was given to us.

Is there a plan in the near future to update the BAR Archive? 2003 seems like ages ago. I have subscribed for years and scanned the issues but they are much more usable in Accordance.

I was anxious to explore this I had at first foolishly assumed all items in BAS would be in BAR... I wanted to compare photo quality differences since for the most part i had been satisfied with the ones in BAS... only to find when i found one identical, the quality in BAS was far superior (I may have located one of the few like that, I even begin to think they had to be two different pictures, but looking at the cloud formations it appears it has to be the same picture, perhaps with some filter on it for BAR). THE BAS is far clearer.

There will, of course, be exceptions to what I've described. The image quality of neither will match the kind of archaeological photos found in the Accordance PhotoGuide or Photo Museum or even ZIBBCOT for instance.

That photo from the Dead Sea was used in a 1980 issue of BAR, so it's at least that old. I have had both collections myself for years and have found them to be invaluable, but in my use the BAR photos have been--by and large--better quality. Again there will be exceptions.

As I have a digital subscription to the current issues of BAR, and the photos are even better there, I look forward to the day when we may have an update.

That's not an announcement, by the way :-)

Well, as I mentioned in my previous reply, no announcement today. The Magic 8 Ball says, "Try again later."

Things finally make sense as to how projects are chosen and when updates happen.... :wub:   :D

PS: Just kidding of course, but occasionally some organizations feel like such random arbitrariness is in effect.

My take on the Theological Journal Library:

The Theological Journal Library is one of my favorite resources and I've used it heavily for years. If these journals were printed volumes, they would be dog-eared by now.

The advantage of having the Theological Journal Library available in an electronic format is clear. There are some electronic resources that simply make searching a little faster. Having these journals in an electronic format, on the other hand, allows you to do things that otherwise would be virtually impossible.

Think about it. Many of these journals are only to be found in the largest seminary libraries. Tracing the thread of scholarly conversation from one printed volume to another would be difficult at best, even with a yearly index, but searching the Accordance module is done with lightning speed, even on an iPad or iPhone.

Imagine the shelf space that would be required to hold the volumes of more than 30 different journals. Bibliotheca Sacra alone includes 169 volumes, beginning with volume 1 in 1844!

In short, having this module gives me more research flexibility than even the best libraries can provide. I can't imagine doing research without it.

Mark,

Are the Theological Journals on sale, or just the BAR archive articles through 2003?

EricC, you're right of course! Sorry about the confusion. As an aside, I like the BAR resource and use it occasionally. I think the sale price is a very good deal.
