Accordance App -Data Usage

Hi,

I am considering getting an Ipad Pro, mainly for use with the Accordance and Logos ios apps. I am unsure whether to go for wi-fi or cellular option. I can tether to my iphone, and have 12gb available this way. If I went for the cellular option, I could probably afford a 2gb plan for the IPP.

My question is, roughly how much data is the Accordance app likely to use in normal use?, not downloading resources, I would use wi-fi for that, bur reading, doing searches etc.

I asked a similar question over on the Logos forums, and it was suggested that Accordance uses quite a lot of data, and I wanted a little more information on this before making my decision. I don't want to pay extra for the cellular IPP and then find out that my data use is too high and have to tether to my iphone, which I could have done with the wi fi model.

I just thought the cellular option might be easier for use at bible study groups, seminars, conferences etc. without having to mess with 2 devices. That way my notes in OneNote would be able to sync as well as Accordance working, using the cellular network.

I appreciate any advice.

Blessings

Duncan

Hi duncan

I use an ipad 2 very ancient without cellular. Once a title is downloaded (wifi or tethered from my mac) it doesnt 'use' data for reading or searches. If i am reading your question correctly and you use wifi to download your resource, you will use zero data for accordance.

I use mine at church, in groups and conferences for reading and run searches etc on it. I wouldnt get cellular if its just for using accordance. think about whether you need to synch one notes at those venues or whether you can delay until you have wifi. (you have an iphone, there is nothing stopping you using the cellular on that on those occasions when you must synch your one note and can have accordance on that as well)

i have accordance on iphone and ipad and tend to use the phone most of the time where i am not expecting to take notes. The ipad is great when taking notes but i always rely on wifi later to synch my notes.

Hope i have read what you asked correctly

It is possible to make a Hotspot with your cellphone if you have no cellular version. But only the cellular version has a GPS module which gives you the ability to search your gadget if its lost or stolen.

The Accordance Mobile app doesn't "stream" resources in the way that the Logos app does, so I can't imagine any scenario where Accordance would use much mobile data, unless you were actually downloading resources using your data connection. But if you download what you need over Wi-Fi, you can access them just fine without data later. The only thing for which I use cellular data in Accordance Mobile is Dropbox sync for highlights and User Notes.

If I recall correctly, at some point in the last year and a half Logos had some major server issues that kept their mobile users from accessing even downloaded resources within the app. Not sure to what extent that was resolved, but there is no downloaded resource in Accordance for which you also need to be online to use it. Maybe that gets at what you're asking. Hope that helps!

Hi Duncan,

When I had an iPad I could download any or all of my resources/modules in Logos and Accordance. But, I had to be online to access lexicons in Logos, e.g., even though I downloaded HALOT in Logos, I couldn't access it in BHS by tapping on a word unless I was online. I could access and read BHS, NA, etc. offline, just without an integrated lexicon. In contrast, I could use downloaded modules in Acc offline, with integrated lexical and search features.

So, I wonder what Logos users mean when they say Acc uses a lot of data online.

Regards,

Michel

Apart from syncing of user data, the only time that Accordance streams data is when installing or updating modules. Even that only happens when you choose to do it, and if you have Accordance on your Mac you can do that over wifi without using any data.

You can also hard disable Accordance use of cellular data in the iOS settings app.

I've been happy with Accordance and Project Fi but then again if you have an expensive plan I can see why to disable.
