Paul Meiklejohn
Can somebody please explain the 'initial commentaries' setting in the Info-Pane settings. Changing the number doesn't seem to have any affect on the amount of commentaries that are displayed. Thank you.
Ken Simpson
Hi Paul, it works for me. What version of Acc are you using?
Paul Meiklejohn
Ken, the latest I believe (11.1.5) This is it set to '5', it still shows about 30+. Edited March 31, 2016 by Paul Meiklejohn
Joel Brown
This is for the initial number of commentaries shown in an Info Pane. My guess is that you already have an existing pane. You can just close the pane and open a new Info Pane, or at the bottom of your commentaries list, click the Minus button to reduce the number shown. Solly
Paul, what I don't notice is the small + and/or - button on the left side just below the commentary icons. Do you ever see these two buttons that are used to show more or fewer commentary icons?
Joel Brown
Solly, these buttons will only be visible if valid and if your commentaries section is open. By 'valid' I mean that they are possible actions. Minus will only appear if you are showing more than the minimum number of commentaries. Plus will only appear if there are more commentary options than currently being shown. If you are on a less commented verse, or have fewer commentaries, it is very possible the button may be hidden. Paul Meiklejohn
Thank you Joel, I didn't realise I needed a new pane for the instructions to become active. Nor did I pick up (Solly) the + and - buttons. Thank you all, problems solved.
Solly
Joel, I noted that in Paul's first screenshot, he had the "Initial Commentaries" set to 5. In the second screenshot he had many more than five commentaries showing, but no minus button was visible. The lack of a minus button in this case puzzles me. I am still not understanding something. Thanks! Edited March 31, 2016 by Solly
Mark Allison
Solly, I believe Paul's second image was clipped at the bottom.
Paul Meiklejohn
Solly, Mark is correct they are there. it is cropped at the edge. But your observations at least brought them to my attention, I just hadn't noticed them before.

Joel Brown
And, Solly, recall as we were saying that the Display settings are for the number of commentaries to show for new panes, thus the text "Initial". It does not reflect the actual number of commentaries shown, as this varies verse by verse and depends on the plus/minus buttons.
Solly
Thanks Joel. This also explains why a change in the 'Initial Commentaries' setting doesn't take effect immediately (changing a procedure parameter won't cause a change until the next execution of that procedure). Also, I thought of the cropped image possibility after writing my second comment. I must remember Mark Twain's advice:"It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt." ;-)
