11.1.6 - User Tool wiped by updating

Chuck Schneider

Recommended Posts

I just updated my user tool for this morning's meeting and the entire contents were wiped.

I'll use the time capsule to recover the past version of my user tool, of course.

The subject line should have read, "user tool" instead of "notes"

I was in a hurry when I posted, so I didn't have time for details. :(

I updated my tool by pressing the update button and then closed the workspace. As I closed the workspace, it asked me if I wanted to save my work or not (or possibly update or not). I selected save (or update?), thinking that somehow it didn't work the first time. Instead of the workspace disappearing, my tool refreshed and showed 0 content. That is, the tool existed, but it was wiped clean of any content.

Not sure what happened, but, when I get time, I'll try to re-enact the crime.

Chuck, this is obviously very serious, so please do let us know if you find the cause.  Is it possible you had two edit windows open for this tool, perhaps one empty?

I can't seem to make this happen again. I performed all of the steps as closely as I could remember, but this time, it didn't ask again for a save or update.

There is an issue with updating a user tool or user note that I have encountered on a number of occasions but it is not something that I can replicate so I do not know for sure what the trigger is. It sounds similar to what might have happened to Chuck but I have never lost the whole tool/note just the updates.

What happens is that I open the edit window then do my edits to the tool then I select update. At this point the tool does not actually update because the update button continues to have the word 'update' highlighted. It you don't notice that then when you exit the edit window it asks do you want to update the tool. When you say yes it still does not actually update the tool but you can exit in which case you lose your edits. If you then go back to the tool it will open but cause a crash. When I reboot Accordance I can update the user tool as usual.

It seems to happen on occasions that I have left Accordance open for a significant period of time - at the moment that is the only obviously consistent thing. This was on MAC and it has only happened since version 11. It has happened to me on at least ten occasions but I have not yet had the problem occur in 11.1.6 - but it is not something that happens consistently anyway.  As soon as I hit update and it doesn't work I now make sure i copy the updated text so that I can easily redo the changes.

Just got this problem with 11.1.6

After clicking on update the result is as follows:

post-30494-0-51597200-1460378317_thumb.png

Note that 'update' is still highlighted.

After this I exited and got the message to cancel or update. When I click update it seems to update and the following happens

Note that the contents pane goes blank. Accordance then crashes if I scroll the user tool.

This is very much like the experience I had, but I was in a hurry at the time and didn't pay closer attention.

Accordance didn't crash, though, and I attempted to open my tool to see if I had really lost it. It opened the tool with the right name, but no content.

I closed Accordance at that point and, later, I went to time capsule.

It is possible that I was fooled into thinking that the tool was gone when it may not have been actually gone.

The two issues seem to have some similarity but not exactly the same. So far I have only had it happen when Accordance has been left overnight and the laptop has had its 'lid' shut. I can work on Accordance OK after that but sometimes I get this issue with updating the user tool.

I generally keep Accordance going until it crashes. In this case, I was kind of sour, so I closed Accordance afterwards.
