iTunes backup without modules

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Last year, when I had to restore from an iTunes backup, the Accordance app was left without the modules that were installed before. There were lots of them, and some were quite huge.

In any case, I had to download all the modules again. Could there be a possibility for Accordance to also save the module information in the backup, so that the modules also get restored along with the app?

Thanks.

We specifically exclude modules from iCloud or iTunes backups based on Apple's recommended best practice of not backing up content that is redownloadable. In fact Apple was rejecting apps that did not follow this practice for a while.

Scott, I don't think Anthony is asking that all the modules be backed up to iCloud but rather the information about which modules are installed, settings, etc. so that Accordance wouldn't have to be set up again from scratch.

As I have to regularly set up new installs for various reasons, I can sympathize with the request, but I'm not one to say whether this is feasible in iOS. I was trying to think if any other iOS Bible platforms do this, and I can't think of any that do, but I could be wrong.

This would be very helpful. I don't mind reinstalling all the modules as much as having to remember which ones and then re-organize them all.

Ah yes. I misunderstood the request.

Upon the first run of the app after restore we do know what was installed previously and could use that information to perform a customized Easy Install to redownload that specific content. A good feature request to consider for a future release.

I think it would also be helpful to preserve the module arrangement in the Library as that can be tedious to restore.

That information is also available on the first run after a restore so Library order could be maintained.

Hmm... I don't know if that has ever worked for me. I didn't even know it was a feature.
