Battlesman
This is probably an easy question—What’s the trick to searching for words with dashes (without using quotes)? For instance, if I type in "self-control” of “self-controlled” (without quotes) I get error messages. Why can’t I not use quotes like I could with “jump”/“jumped”? If I type in “jump” (no quotes) I get “jump” and “jumped.” Why can’t I get the same results with “self-controlled”? Thanks, friends.
Λύχνις Δαν
It's curiously difficult to search for - within a word. It appears to be treated as a delimiter of words unless you quote it. No doubt this stems from it's various uses in text and so on. In any case the only way I could get a query which returned hits for self-controlled and self-control was this (without quotes) : *?control* Thx D
Helen Brown
I think this is a decision that is made for each text, whether hyphenated words should be treated as one word or two. Usage varies so much that our developers just make the best decision they can. When they are treated as two words you should be able to search, for example, for .- control*
