HMT, BHS and Masora Thesaurus

Hi ya,

Starting to make progress in Hebrew leads to a few questions about resources.

In Acc. I know that HMT is the text on which morph and syntax is maintained, but like Greek where we have NA 28 Greek and UBS and NA, the HMT does not carry the apparatus but rather the BHS does it seems. Fine got that more or less, though I'm not exactly sure why one single text isn't used for both in either Greek or Hebrew, but that's no doubt my comp. sci. brain normalizing things inappropriately.

  To questions then :

  1. Am I correct that the primary purpose of the BHS in Acc now since the HMT has appeared is the support of the apparatus ?

  2. Regarding the Masora Thesaurus (I would love to abbreviate that but MT would just be confusing); it appears that this does not run the M. Qetana in parallel to a text but rather the module stands as a separate tool that one amplifies to or searches directly. Is that correct or can one run it in parallel with a text ? If so which text ?

  3. Regarding Masora Qetana or Gedola, is there any indication in the text (BHS presumably as I don't see it in HMT though I could have missed it - is Greek affecting my English :), at least I use parens ) that a Masora entry is present for the particular location in the text ? I read BK Mitchell's great post on the Thesaurus and note that the print BHS uses a small superscripted circle to indicate this for M. Qetana.

  4. Absent 3 above I think this is unlikely to be possible, but I'll ask in case you haven't guessed yet. Is the ID support for Masora in the Hebrew bible texts, so that one might mouse over an in-text indicator and see the Masora in the ID pane ?

Thx

D

The Masota Thesaurus is arranged by key word, so you can look up a verse reference and see the notes, but not run it in parallel with the text.

BHS-T has the little circles on the words (which throws off the syntax) and mousing over these displays the Apparatus but that tool does not include all of both Masora, just what the editors chose.

Only the BHQ module has both sets of Masora, but it currently covers only a few books. In those books you can display the Masora in parallel or in Instant Details.

Thank you Helen and now I remember why I thought Rick B had done something on the Masora. It was his video on the Quinta where he mentions it.

Many thanx
