is there a possibility to rent (like office 365 oder Adobe CC) accordance?

I would like to pay a monthly fee for all hebrew and or rabbinic resources instead.

I think providing this option for those who like it would be fine, but I sure hope I'm never forced into a payment model for Accordance like that for Adobe's products or Microsoft's.

Eric, I agree!

There is a big difference!

The MS Office, Adobe CC, etc. is only an App. There you didn't buy contents. In Accordance the App itself cost only ~50$ (with content), the rest is copyrighted content.

Greetings

Our licensing agreements with the publishers do not envision or cover a "rental" program, and renegotiating them all would take a lot of work and time.

I don't understand why anyone would want to pay to not own something.   If you want small monthly payments you could get a credit card, or you could use the instalment plan available through Accordance right? And if you did it this way, you can keep the product for life!

Unfortunately a number of software organisations see it as a way to make money as there are people who dont want to upgrade every time there is a new version.

Avid and adobe have gone down that route so you cant actually buy their software now and subscribing to a monthly rent is the only way, and you loose the ability to edit files if you stop paying. While enough people subscribe, its unlikely they will change their mind and too many people will subscribe, even if reluctantly..

Currently i have the last versions but am worried when i have to upgrade because of new hardware with a later os installed.

Not just that, but the subscription fee for those products, works out the same as if you had purchased the full-product+upgrades as they come out. (so you may as well just have been buying the product full price anyway, except now, you don't own it!)

Honestly I paid a fraction of the cost of 365 for one year to buy the software forever and until the next major release I don't think I'm missing anything.

Seriously though the subscription model is simply a way to get you to pay a lot more for the same stuff you could have bought. Just look at how much other companies cost and then find out how much that would cost you every year and the products you could own for that same price. If you just want access to the Hebrew titles, do you really want to pay a fee for the next 30 years to use them instead of just buying them outright?

I'm actually on a subscription model for MS Office. Yes, it works our about the same as buying an upgrade every two years, but it came with additional advantages. I got Office 365 on my phone, I get updates and new features first, etc.

Now, if it turns out the MS doesn't keep adding features or doesn't come out with a new version every two years, I'll reconsider. (I own MS Office 2011.)

Yeah, but I don't need outlook and there are free versions of office for android. So I paid roughly the price for one year of 365 for something I could use the next four or six years without upgrading and I don't have to worry about paying for the subscription forever to keep the software. I think that is the biggest drawback is that once you start the subscription you are forced to continue with it or give up the software. Personally for me the perks never outweigh the need to continue to pay every year. Another benefit is that should something happen that would make it impossibly to pay for a subscription, I still have the program and can use it, whereas if I had a subscription I would lose the ability to use it. (assuming the subscription must be done on a year by year basis.)

It works great fine if you are one of those people who must update every time a new edition comes out and if there are really great features and improvements. But even then I don't think I would participate.

I have made an assumption that it would not be feasable for Accordance to provide their entire library of modules for a reasonable fee. If that could be done I would have to reassess my statemets.

Microsoft requires that you be connected to the internet for the software to continue to work.  As an active duty service member, I spend long periods of time, sometimes months at a time, away form personal internet.  I say personal because government networks are all we have available.  My Office 365 has shut down on me numerous times.  It is very frustrating.  I made sure that this did not happen with Accordance before I purchased. I am not a fan of the "lease/rent" model of use.   The rent-to-own option requires that Microsoft ping your computer every 30 days or it starts a protocol to disable your product.   Microsoft also locked me out of my email account because I tried to log in from overseas but that's a different story.

I know the other major software company has done this, Im trialing it (reluctantly) just now, primarily due to my switch to Android and Accordance being an unspecified time away from supporting the os.  Once Accordance is out for Android ill re-examine my options as I like the programme and have a fair amount purchased on it.

I do think its a very, very good option for those who have limited budgets (like me!, i couldnt possibly purchase another library now!), allowing Pastors who dont have massive dispensible income to access good software.  I know there are payment plans and those are great however I think thats something entierly different from subscription.
