I'm having difficulty getting this to work (pretty much like every search I try in the syntax database).

This is my prototypical verse (1 John 2:1):

καὶ ἐάν τις ἁμάρτῃ, παράκλητον ἔχομεν πρὸς τὸν πατέρα Ἰησοῦν Χριστὸν δίκαιον·

I'm trying to find every instance of this conditional phrase fronted before the apodosis.

Here is what the syntax shows:

Here is what I set up for the search:

And I'm getting nothing in response on the search.

Anyone?

If you increase the depth on the DEPENDENT clause to 1 or 2 you will get your prototypical phrase.

This has to do with your use of the depth and the subjunctive verb.  Looking at your syntax tree, you have specified that the dependent clause has a depth of zero, meaning the items you specify cannot have anything in between.  You first say it must contain =ἐάν_1, which clearly is shown immediately within the clause.  But, for the subjunctive verb you also specify this must occur at a depth of zero.  However, look at your tree - there is a 'P' in the way!  You either need to use a depth of 1 to allow for the 'S' and 'P' descriptions in between the clause and its words, or you need to explicitly define those levels by using a SUBJECT PHRASE or, in your case, a PREDICATE PHRASE.  See picture:
