Using CNTTS apparatus with greek text and search function

dlrude

Recommended Posts

I am attempting to use CNTTS apparatus (revised).

I notice that if I open a greek text then add the CNTTS in parallel that I cannot do a search withing CNTTS apparatus.

Alternatively if I open the apparatus first I can do a search but then cannot add a parallel greek text.

What am I doing wrong, any clues?

BTW I saw Dr. J have them in parallel in a podcast but that was an earlier version of the apparatus and Accordance.

I also noticed that apparatus is based to UBS3 is that an issue?

Thanks, Dave.

A parallel pane can't be searched. You'll need to open the CNTTS Apparatus in a new zone, then right-click on the CNTTS Apparatus tab, and go to "Tab Ties". The two zones will then scroll in parallel, and you'll be able to search both.

Thanks for the tip.

It doesn't actually scroll together then even with the tabs tied.

The scroll together occasionally when I manually page ahead but they do not scroll together when I move from hit to hit by press the "hit" button.

I am starting to think that it is more than user error.

I also noticed that I cannot make the CNTTS pane be a horz. pane like Dr. J did because no button is provided to do that.

There is no button, just drag and drop to the place where you want it to have. But I have tried it 4-5 till it stay on the bottom.

Try to tab tie again.

The button was moved to the gear menu, saying 'Move Up' or 'Move Down'.

You're right for parallels, but as parallel he can't search in the CNTTS which he wants.

dlrude,

If you want CNTTS Apparatus in parallel, then the option is as I described.

If you want it searchable in its own tab, you need to tie it together like Fabian's workspace.

This worked but only after I closed the instant message window because with it open there was not enough space.

Thanks!

Joel,

I understand that (I think) but what I want to do is search CNTTS, move from hit to hit and have the greek text also move to the verse in the hit.

Podcast 29.2 shows CNTTS to work like that, or at least that is what I though it was showing.

So how do I accomplish what I want to do?

Thanks, Dave.

Dave,

Everything is working as designed in the tied-tab approach. However, this may not be readily apparent because of how we tagged the Apparatus.

Some background info: In a module if we tag multiple instances of the same scripture reference in the 'Reference' field, Accordance will sync to the last of the references. This is because early on we made the assumption that the last (and most specific) reference in a commentary would be the one you would want to sync to the text. This has caused some confusion over the years, and in the case of the CNTTS Apparatus it may lead you to believe that last reference Accordance synced to was the only hit, and you would have to scroll up to see the rest.

So we made the decision to tag only the first instance in the Reference field. Accordance will sync to that first occurrence and you can scroll through all the hits while the parallel text remains on that verse, which works well in practice. One thing we could change is to tag the latter references in the Scripture field so that they are still hyperlinked and searchable in that field.

In your case, with the tab-tied zone, the parallel text is not syncing to the location of the hit if it is one of these secondary references. You need to scroll up to the first instance in the verse and then Accordance will sync the parallel text.

I hope this helps to explain things. Do chime in if you need additional explanation or assistance.

Rick,

I think that I follow but I don't think it is doing as you say.

Notice on the attached screen shot that I used the "hit" key to get down to chapter 2 but the text is still on chapter 1.

The screenshot is tiny and unreadable. But, I think you're still missing my point. The Hit key goes from hit to hit in the field you're searching. The tied tab will not sync the text unless the hit lands on the first instance to a tagged verse in the 'Reference' field. If you scroll the apparatus up to the first instance of that verse reference, the text will then sync, and you can scroll back down to your desired location.

I hope this helps…

I tried to copy the last workspace of the podcast.

It must be the same like Dr. J. even it is restricted to Romans.

Fabian

Thanks, I loaded it but all of the panes are blank when I do that so I cannot see what is happening.

I did notice on my setup that the CNTTS zone will follow the greek text zone scrolling but the greek zone will not follow the scrolling of the CNTTS zone.

Yes run the search on the CNTTS and then it will display.

I could hit the "hit" key all day long until I get to the end of the CNTTS and the greek text does not move.

I tried a couple times to make the screen shot bigger not sure what is happening there.

Dave

wow! not sure why the multiple posts, lol, sorry

I see and it fills in now.

However like my setup I mash the "hit" key until I am down in Rom. 6:23 in the apparatus but the greek text does not move.

Does it work for you?

Thanks, Dave.
