jkdoyle
I'm wondering how to do a couple (or maybe three) different searches that give total counts of words in content: 1. Total number of Hebrew words in, say, a book like Genesis. Repeated words get counted individually in the total. E.g., each of the 219 times אלהים appears it gets counted in the total. 2. Total number of words, but repeats only get counted once. E.g, if אלהים appears 219 times in the text/search range, it only gets counted once in the total.3. How do I do this uniquely for lemma, root, inflected, etc.? Thanks Jimmy Doyle Edited October 6, 2016 by jkdoyle
Helen Brown
First set the Range in the popup menu by clicking the + to the right of the seatrch entry box. The lemma searches are the default so just enter ברא for example. To search inflected, enclose the word in quotes, to search the root preced it with a +. If you are counting all words use * instead of the characters. Then from the Analytics button select Analysis. You should get these results for the lemma: ברא (54 total words)Number of different forms = 3: (ברא) ברא־1 to create = 48 (ברא) ברא־2 to be fat = 1 (ברא) ברא־3 to cut = 5 Your total words will be the number of all the occurrences of all the forms. The number of forms is the number of different lemmas. To see the number of different inflected forms you would go to Set Analysis Display and replace LEX in the first column with INFLECT. It's harder to count the roots as these are a separate database so I think you will have to add them up from the lemma list, and remember that not all forms have a known root.
