Genealogy Module?

I saw talk of a Genealogy module for Accordance. I didn't find any of the such in my search. Can someone direct me to where it might be if it so exists?

As the original question has been answered may I hijack this thread with some followup questions ?

Can one amplify from other resources to this genealogy module, for example from a bible text or tool ?

If the answer to the above is yes, does the source name have to be in English or could I amplify from HMT or GNT ?

Thx

D

Its also works like a commentary it scrolls with the texts.

And yes to the second question (as Fabian has indicated).  Since it is essentially linked to your commentaries, it will scroll along with any original language.

Which leads me on to my own question.

Can the charts be copied? I'm struggling to highlight or copy the charts themselves or even text they contain.

I'm I mising something obvious?

Thanks,

Paul.

Fabain, Paul, thanx but I'm not sure I followed that exactly. Can one highlight a name in a text and then amplify to this module and have it open to the relevant tree ? I hadn't expected that it be organized by verse to scroll in parallel but that could be handy too.

Thx

D

Yes, you can amplify to a person's name in the Genealogy module from any other module in Accordance.

Thanx Mark. Only from an English text or can one go direct from Greek or Hebrew too ?

Thx

No, it won't work with Greek or Hebrew. Amplifying only works if the name is spelled exactly the same in the source text and the Genealogy module.

Thanx I rather thought that. I've long thought it would be good for modules like this (and the TL and Atlas ) to support original language lookup.

Now that the previous questions have been answered, I'll hijack this again and go a different direction.

c. $100 is pretty steep to me if this is simply the same information that I could find with a quick Google search. Could someone share with me the details of what makes this module worth purchasing?

Accordance pricing is usually extremely reasonable, so I assume I'm just missing something/not understanding its capabilities. Could someone enlighten me or point me in the right direction for said enlightenment?

Thanks!

Is it worth $100? Well, it depends. I'm sure you could find a free Bible genealogy in GEDCOM format on the internet, but it wouldn't sync with your Bible.

The interface with the genealogical charts inside their own window within the module is weird and is a bit of a pain to use, TBH.

You can scale the chart within the window, but you cannot scale the window.

I've found that if you want to zoom into a chart by clicking own the Plus and Minus zoom icons, they move. So if you think you can zoom in 2x times by clicking twice, you cannot, because after the first click the Minus zoom button has moved to the position where the Plus zoom button used to be. So by clicking 2x you zoom in and then out again. You have to click, move the mouse, and click again to zoom in 2x.

And there appears to be no way to copy or print the charts, or export them to PDF.

So I'd give it low marks for the interface.

However, there is a lot of genealogical information within the module that would work just fine as you would expect from any commentary, in parallel with the Biblical text.

So if that is your interest, I'd give it higher marks for that. Having said that, I think that a lot of that information you could get from a decent Bible dictionary. And I think that $100 would be far better spent towards a good Bible dictionary.

If a future update fixes the way we can interface with the charts, and allows copying/pasting or exporting the actual charts, that would make it a far better module IMHO.

Genealogy is a bit of a specialist interest, so it isn't a module for everyone.

Are these things beta tested with Real World Users outside the Accordance secret compound in Antarctica?

So there you have my somewhat guarded opinion/review. I got it with an upgrade bundle, so it was not a deliberate purchase on my part. I'll leave it at that.

PM me if you want a screen share demo over Skype.

For clarification, positioning the zoom buttons is not a trivial solution, and we did think through it a good bit.  You can easily zoom the diagram using a scroll wheel, however.  Finally, Alistair, I do not know why you say "but you cannot scale the window".  All zones and windows can be resized, and you can adjust both the text size of the rest of the diagram, or the diagram itself, so everything is resizable and scalable.

We'll look into an export option for a diagram.

To answer your question, Jordan, the usefulness of genealogical data is dependent on the user, similar to audiovisual resources or other presentations of data.  However, I am not so sure that quick google searches will give you the same quality or usefulness of data.  For instance, if studying the post exilic return to Jerusalem, my google-fu was unable to provide the list of Judites and Benjaminites that returned.  This genealogy gives you a nice chart, along with detailed information:

Screen Shot 2016-11-08 at 2.00.31 PM.png

1 The total number of people from the tribe of Judah who were chosen to live in Jerusalem was 690 individuals.

2 The Shilonites may be the family of Shiloni, mentioned in Nehemiah 11:5. More likely it refers to Shilonites/Shelanites, the descendants of Shelah, the son of Judah (cf. Genesis 46:12; Numbers 26:20; 1 Chronicles 2:3).

3 The total number of people from the tribe of Benjamin who were chosen to live in Jerusalem was 956 individuals.

Indeed, thank you Joel. That's why I assumed that I was missing something from my understanding of the module.

I'm only a novice in Google-fu, so I was being relatively facetious in that regard. If your black belt skills were unable to find a satisfactory answer, then I'm sure I would fail as well.

Thank you again for your reply.

May I hijack this thread, I saw Genealogy module was once in the graphic collections when Accordance 12 published. However, it was disappear this week. Does anyone buy it within graphic collections?

Finally, Alistair, I do not know why you say "but you cannot scale the window".

I meant the box that the genealogy chart is in. You can make the module fun screen but the chart is still in a little box (black outline around the chart.) I've not discovered any way to make that box any bigger.

That is true, I saw the same thing...

Alistair, the magnification (I've found) is dependent on the size of the pane.  If I I close down panes and create more real estate, I find that + key has more range.  I'm not sure if that addresses your point, but hope its of help.

We admit that Genealogies was listed for a couple of days in the Graphics Collections, but that was a mistake as we had in fact decided it belongs in the English Track, and placed it there.

We will continue working to improve the interaction with this new and completely unique tool.

I cannot reproduce this. I've resized the pane and even made it full-screen but to no avail.

However I have discovered that scrolling my mouse while hovering over the chart will scale the chart and the box that it is in.

Therefore I would happily modify my previous statement to state the the charts are scalable including the box they are in, IF you use a scrolling action/middle mouse wheel to do it. :)

Before using scroll:

See how the box gets bigger too. Happy bunny once more.

So what if people bought that collection with the genealogies in it, within those couple of days? For example, the graphics discoverer was one of those that showed it was in that package.

This was the very thing I was wondering as well
