Hi,

Well, it's been quite an adventure/journey away from Windows towards Linux and Mac, and I finally decided on a Mac. My new mini, late 2014, which I'm very thankful for, came with El Capitan. I've noticed that a few members had problems with Sierra, and were even thinking of downgrading. I don't have enough experience with Mac to know whether I should upgrade yet. I would appreciate any thoughts, suggestions, encouragements, or warnings. Specifically, does Acc 11 work on it? (I'll upgrade sometime next year to Acc 12). Does anyone use BW on it? Or Office 365, Mellel, Scrivener, or Sente?

I really don't want one of my early Mac experiences to be a downgrade, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Even general comments from someone who doesn't use any of the programs/apps that I do except Acc.

Thanks and regards,

Michel

Hey Michel, I have been using Sierra on my MacBook Pro and have had no issues. I use Accordance 12, and have not encountered any issues at all. I also use MS Office and it works great as well. I would update to Sierra if I was you. Any other applications I have ran do just fine on my MacBook Pro. You should not have any issues.

The graphical glitches I saw initially are gone.  Please don't ask me to explain because I just can't.  Everything seems to be working well.  I reboot only once every week or two – sometimes longer.  If I see anything weird, I reboot and it goes away.

I'd go ahead and upgrade.  My computers are older than yours.  My husband's are older yet.  We're going along well in Sierra.

Michel,

Mac OS upgrades have been free for many years, so unless there are new features you would use, there is no need to rush the upgrades. You will always be able to upgrade to the "latest" version of the OS that will run on your machine. Mac continues to push out security updates for previous versions of the OS.

I have not upgraded to Sierra (not even to El Capitan) because of compatibility issues with software that I already have and frequently use. Eventually, I will upgrade but there is no hurry on my part. Accordance system requirements say Accordance 12 will run on Mac OS 10.6 and above (Snow Leopard to Sierra), so you should not experience any problems running 12 on El Capitan.

Hi,

Thanks. I actually took everyone's advice. I wanted the universal clipboard and tabs so I upgraded, but only after checking if my programs would work. I was worried about JSesh, but it works in Sierra. I was also worried about my Logitech wireless mouse and keyboard, especially after reading reports about problems, but they work too. Thanks again.

Regards,

Michel
