Accordance 12 Font Size Problem on 4K display

With the font size set to just 9 (the lowest size available) in the Text and Tool preference panels, the actual font size that appears in the preview pane and in the resources themselves when opened, are equivalent to a 26-28 pt. font in a Word document.  And selecting larger point sizes in the preference panels results in correspondingly larger font sizes in the preview pane and the resources when opened.

The font size can be adjusted for the resource AFTER it's opened, and the font size will stay at the adjusted size upon opening and closing the workspace.  BUT, if the resource is closed and then reopened in the workspace, it once again defaults to the very large font size, just as it does the first time the resource is opened in a workspace.  The bottom line is that the application is able to display the text just fine at the appropriate size.  The problem seems to be with the preference settings.

A sales rep worked with me on it for about 20 minutes, but he couldn't identify the problem and asked me to contact support.  I passed the info to Support and provided them with screen images to demonstrate the problem, but I'm wondering if anyone else with a UHD display is experiencing this problem.

NOTE:  I would have included the screen shots here that I sent to Support, but haven't been able to get them inserted in my post.

I have the same issue, Rick. It has to do with inefficient/inconsistent scaling of high res screens on the part of Windows. In fact, I heard well-known Windows blogger Paul Thurrott mention this on a podcast just a day or two ago--not in reference to Accordance but just Windows in general. I have the exact same problem on two Windows installations I use. Like you, in Accordance I set the font size for texts and tools at 9, but it's always much higher than that when I have content displayed.

I do believe our developers are aware of this issue and will continue to find ways of addressing it until a satisfactory solution is found. In the meantime, if misery loves company, I'm with you!

One thing that might work (I'm not sitting in front of a Windows computer at the moment to verify) is to open any regularly used texts, adjust the font size manually for each, and then save this workspace. If you regularly use some of the same content, saving workspaces is a good idea anyway, but it may be that they will open back up the exact same font size as before. That won't work for other content when you open it, but it will be helpful for your most use resources.

Hi, Rick!  Thanks for chiming in.  I don't really want others to be sharing the pain, but it is nice to know it's not a problem specific to a conflict between my machine and Accordance.  :)

I haven't had this problem with any of my other software, which includes a variety of applications from photo editing (Adobe Photoshop Elements) to other Bible Study software (which I won't name).  In this particular situation with Accordance, where all the text and icons for the splash screen, menus, tabs, preferences, the info panel, instant info, the library, etc., are fine, and it's just the text and tool resource content that's not displaying properly based on the preferences, (yet can be manually adjusted so they do display properly), it seems to me the most likely cause of the problem is a glitch in the Accordance code for the text and tool preferences default font size.  Also, just in way of an FYI for anyone reading along, I did play with changes to my display resolution (all the way down to 1920 x 1080) and with Windows scaling, both individually and in combination, while restarting my machine between every change--but the problem remained.

Regarding the font size results when saving and re-opening a workspace (or simply exiting and restarting Accordance), I did note in my original post that the font size does remain where it was set manually for each resource--at least that's what I've experienced so far.  However, closing and re-opening the resource always results in it reverting back to the very large (humongous  ) font size.

I do plan to check back with Support on the problem and will pass along any update info worth mentioning if there is any.

  • 1 month later...

I had a 4k (high dpi) monitor for a few days and had the same problem, but didn't look deeper into the issue back then.
Having a "normal" monitor again now I could reproduce this issue by simply adjusting the scaling in windows manually.

Steps I took:
- Set font size to 12 in normal 100% scaling
- Switch to higher scaling (150% for example) and logging off and logging in again. The font size in the user notes is now 9, which before was set to 12.
- Writing new text in the user notes and setting the font size to 9.
- Switching back to 100% scaling and re-login the new user notes text I entered has now the font size 14.

I'll wait with switching to a high res display until accordance fully supports it.

(I use Accordance 12.0.4 on Windows 8.1 Pro x64)
