Julia Falling
Hey – Still wandering around in a Hebrew fog, bumping into things and feeling generally overwhelmed. How do I search for all Hithpael-stem verbs in Accordance? All the other derived stems are listed. Pratico & Van Pelt say there are 842 of them (bottom of page 385). I'm sure there must be a way to search for it but I lack the appropriate nomenclature. Thanks!
Λύχνις Δαν
Fellow wanderer in Hebrew over here I appreciate your posts on Hebrew. Nice to know I'm not alone And your post on the 2fs perfect verbs helped find tagging errors in ETCBC. So that was really good. On the hithpael - sorry I don't know. thx D
Julia Falling
I think it might be Hitpael. I think the Hebrew fog is doing something to my vision as well as my brain? The spelling don't doesn't match what is in my textbook. Duh … EDIT: Apparently, Hebrew is also wrecking my grammar. This is so sad! Michel Gilbert
Hi, Without going into detail, hithpael is the correct biblical pronunciation. Acc uses a Modern Hebrew pronunciation. Julia, I think your text must have mentioned the בְּגַדְכְּפַתletters. The ת in הִתְפַּעֵל closes the (CvC) syllable so it is pronounced as a fricative, transliterated as "th." In Sephardic pronunciation, ג , ד , and ת don't have the soft pronunciation - they are hard stops g, d, and t. So, yes, hithpael = hitpael. Douglas Fyfe
This feels like a stupid answer, as if I've missed something. Have you tried searching for [VERB hitpael]? It's under stems in the drop down box. Accordance says 840 hits after doing analytics, with 171 verbs represented. Julia Falling
Douglas – There is a difference in the spelling of the conjugations between Pratico and Van Pelt and Accordance. I think I've got it now. Thanks.
