Find Related Phrases

Recommended Posts

In BibleWorks there is a simple search option "Find Related Phrases" that works with a click. It quickly and easily finds any and all matching phrases. Does Accordance have a feature like this?

Thanks for any help.

What do you mean by 'Matching' or 'Related' Phrases?

In BibleWorks if I look up a verse and click "Find Related Phrases" under the search bar tools and hit return. I am presented with a dialog box that finds every 3 word phrase (this is definable )combination in that verse throughout the rest of the Bible.

Give an example of what this would look like?

It's similar to our Fuzzy Search, but perhaps a bit more automated in BW.

But William, definitely check out the Fuzzy Search in Accordance Help.

Rick,

The window you showed is almost it but instead of Words it is phrases. Actually called "Find Related Phrases".

Check out both the Fuzzy and the Infer searches to see if those will do in Accordance what you're wanting to do.

BW10's Phrase Matching Tool (Tools > Analyzing the Text > Phrase Matching Tools).

I'd also like to see if it's possible to do this in Accordance (or what there is that is similar).

FWIW, I don't know why every word in the original languages or in translations hasn't been tagged with synonyms and antonyms. I think Acc is the best program to search for related phrases manually, in the Construct search user interface. For example, I always use Even-Shoshan's A New Concordance of the Bible. Thesaurus of the Language of the Bible: Hebrew and Aramaic Roots, Words, Proper Names, Phrases, and Synonyms to find lexical items to plug in phrase searches. I'm very grateful for this in Acc. At the same time, finding related phrases is such a valuable exegetical tool that it deserves to be automated - like in Acc and BW, select a phrase, search, and like in BW search for related phrases, but with a much richer tagging and algorithm.
