DropBox sync issues continue

Having a very frustrating time trying to get syncing to work between Acc. 12.0.3 desktop and Ios 2.4.4

I have gone through the process of unlinking, resetting, re-linking etc and the Ipad hangs on a task when syncing. On the one occasion that it did not hang, none of the user highlights from the desktop appear (with desktop HL chosen).  I also keep getting the message " There was a problem completing this request." in a little red box at the top of the Dropbox window when I change folders within the Accordance folder.

This is making sync useless for me and significantly reducing the usability of the app as a whole for me.  Are others still having similar problems?

Questions/comments:

  • for the dropbox.com request issue - here is the dropbox help page for resolving the error message
  • Before the issue with iOS, did you sync OK with the desktop? if so, was it Mac or Windows?

Using Win 10 (1607) - Syncing with desktop has been fine, except when I turn on or off sync, the program crashes. This is happening without any other devices linked to dropbox (DB). I just finished with Tech Support and they are aware of the problem. We managed to get the two devices to sync, but there seems to be at least one file that is causing some sort of problem.

So I,

  1. Unlinked Acc. from DB
  2. Removed all the old syncable files and cleared DB,
  3. Opened Acc. and started fresh.
  4. Added a few highlights and user notes, and a user tool.
  5. Everything seemed smooth enough.
  6. I then unlinked Acc. so that I could link the Ipad and as soon as I hit okay on the user preferences screen for unlinking DB, the program crashes.

  1. Reset everything in the Ipad
  2. Relinked to DB.
  3. Screen showed 4 tasks and got to Final Task and then hung for  more than 5 minutes.
  4. Press the Home button on the Ipad and then Acc. again and the "Syncing with DB" screen disappears.
  5. User notes and user tools appear to be synced. Highlights are not syncing.
  6. Back to Acc desktop, I re-link to DB, program immediately crashes.
  7. Open Acc again and manually sync with DB. 2 files updated successfully.
  8. Manually sync from Ipad and screen sticks again on final task.
  9. Pressed Home button and opened Acc again on Ipad. Final Task screen closes - no highlights updated.
  10. Looked at timestamp on highlight file in DB and it is 23 minutes old. So i created new highlight, ran manual sync on desktop.
  11. Run manual sync on Ipad.Ipad does 2 tasks and shows complete and closes sync screen without hanging at final task this time.
  12. No highlights showing up on Ipad.
  13. Run manual sync again on Ipad. Sticks at Final Task.

Hope you can get this stuff fixed soon. This is a serious problem.

How many different highlight files are in your Dropbox and what are their file names including any extensions?

Hi Matt,

Normally when a user is having trouble syncing content to Accordance Mobile we recommend going through the Reset User Content steps to remove the local user content and get a fresh copy from Dropbox.

However, it looks like there is a bug in the Reset User Content flow that removes the user content but does NOT unlink from dropbox.
We noticed that after doing a Reset User Content, that Accordance Mobile would crash on the first launch.
If you launch Accordance Mobile again and do a dropbox sync, then all of your files will be removed from dropbox.

We are working on a fix and will put out a revision as soon as possible.

If you want to workaround this bug and get a fresh copy of user content on your iPad:
  • "quit" Accordance Mobile
  • Go to system settings and Reset User Content
  • Launch Accordance Mobile and let it crash (it removed the content but did not unlink)
  • Launch Accordance Mobile and go to Library > Settings > User Content Syncing and tap Unlink from Dropbox
  • Now Relink to dropbox and you will be prompted to sync to Dropbox

Let us know if all of your highlight files were synced (look in Library > Settings > Display Settings > Highlight File)

Sorry for the hassles,

Mike

Just one, with the extension hlt

Mike,

I have gone through the reset again as I describ4ed and files seem to be in sync now, but ACC. desktop still crashes when linking or unlinking and Ios hangs as I have described. Will hold off using it though until you guys get the kinks worked out. I appreciate the help.

Had a similar issue that somehow deleted all my user data in drop box. When I restored from trash in DB, I got the same red error box. Honestly, that was traumatic enough for me I'm done syncing with Drop Box. I don't know what the problem is or who owns it, but I'm not risking that again.

Matt,

We will investigate the Windows link/unlink crashing. However, I get the impression from your steps above that you are unlinking from Windows so that you can DB sync to your iPad:

I then unlinked Acc. so that I could link the Ipad and as soon as I hit okay on the user preferences screen for unlinking DB, the program crashes.

In other words, if (after resetting iPad described above) the files seem to be in sync then you do not need to unlink Accordance desktop to keep the files in sync.

Also,  just wanted to make sure you realize that the Accordance Mobile System Settings apply to the next restart of Accordance Mobile. You must “Quit” Accordance, tap System Settings > Accordance > Reset User Content, and then relaunch Accordance Mobile. Like I said above, there is a bug in 2.4.4 and you can work around it using steps above.

Hi Mike

Yes, I went through the steps to unlink and reset and re-link etc with Tech Support and he suggested that there was a corrupt file somewhere that was causing Acc. to crash on link/unlink/sync etc. So he suggested to systematically go through each type of file to see which was the culprit. So unlinking the desktop from DB was a step to clear things and make sure there were no clashing files.

I also did relaunch the app for each reset, so I think that is okay. It looks to me that things are working, though not necessarily stable. On my first attempt a few weeks ago, DB deleted my files, so with the current instability, I'm still not confident to rely on linking yet. The other BIG deal for me is that there is no way to make notes in reference works on the Ipad app. That's a total drag, as reading books/reference's on the Ipad is what I do most.  So, actually, syncing is not so important when I can't read desktop notes or generate notes on the Ios.  Unfortunately, I only discovered this after investing heavily into the system and reference works. So, I'm sure the sync will get worked out, but more importantly for me, I hope someone is working on the notes feature :)
