Searching for a word based upon its location in the verse

Mark starts many of his verses with the word 'and'. I would like to see exactly how many times he does that. Is it possible for me to search Mark for the word 'and' and only find it when 'and' is the first word in the verse? Thanks.

Sure! Use the "Field" command together with the "Within" command and set your range to Mark

Mark, maybe this is something obvious, and I just need to go take my "brain pill," but why is Accordance showing 788 hits in 394 verses (basically doubling the verse number) if we're only looking for results at the beginning of a verse? The hits should just be 394, right? Is it because there is a word ("and") + a field designation, and thus Accordance is counting both as hits?

Here are two other variations on answering the question.

How many times does καί occur at the beginning of a verse in Mark in the Greek NT?

How many results occur for a Key word search for καί (Strong's G2532) at the beginning of the verse in the ESV in Mark?

A long time ago, if my mind serves me right, I was told that every time you use the WITHIN command you are actually using two search terms. In this particular case, "and" and the beginning of the search field (which counts as another search term). Hence you get 394 x 2, which equals 788 hits. Somebody can correct me if I'm wrong...

I believe Ruben is correct.

The analysis output actually shows the two counts, one for each expression which when added up total to the reported hit count.

Thx

Rick, off topic, but... where can one find these "brain pills"?

Nice one, Rick. I'll let you know how it goes.

Although I might wait for their testimonials to come back online first.... ("Due to claims being investigated by the FDA this page is currently unavailable.")

There are two terms being searched [Field Begin] and the word “and"

hence every verse found has 2 hits.
