Amplify from verse reference in tool to commentary

Since Accordance already knows that (a) what I'm looking at is a Bible reference and ( it's from Jeremiah, is there any way we could have our tools allow us to amplify from verse references right to a commentary? Is there a workaround for this that's right under my nose that I'm missing?

The use case is--I want to not only look up this passage, but look up what the Interpretation commentary says about it. I know I can do that from Amplify or the Info Pane once the Bible text is open, but is there a more direct way? If not, might this be considered as a feature addition?

 

 

EDIT: Also, could the forum possibly somehow be adjusted to allow b enclosed in parentheses to not convert to a cool guy smiley face? I always feel like I'm rick-rolled when that happens.

This is what I have learned first if I came to Accordance, I had the same question and Helen answered me like this: The Bible is central and you have always to start from the Bible. It is not willed, that the user can start from the Tools. 

 

I know you came from another Bible software which handles this like your suggestion, but not the one from OakTree.

I came to Accordance from BibleWorks, which I don't think can do something like what I'm requesting in Accordance.

 

Are there mechanical, programming limitations that cause this attempted action to not be permitted? As opposed to a philosophical reason--even (happily) conceding Accordance is a Bible text-based app.

 

Oddly, when I Amplify from the Toolbar, the options are often greyed out but not always, as shown in the attached.

 

 

At any rate--I'd make frequent use of this feature, were Accordance to add it in an update at some point.

It's only a single step more in Accordance, Abram. Click on the verse reference to open a Text pane, then click on the reference  in the Text pane and amplify it to the commentary.

 

Better yet, add the Info Pane in parallel in the Text pane and you can see what multiple commentaries say just by hovering over their covers with your cursor. Once the Text pane is set up this way, any addition clicks on verse references will repopulate the pane with that verse (unless you have recycle turned off); the Info Pane will update as well.

Yes, I understand it's only a step more. I agree that the Info Pane is a good way to go here, once clicking a text open from the reference. 

 

This came up as I was creating a tutorial video in Accordance for the new Interpretation materials, and exploring how Accordance makes easy the integration between tools (the commentary, the monographs, Bible texts, etc.). I had hoped I could jump to the Interpretation commentary section on Jeremiah 32 straight from the monograph (wouldn't that be snazzy?)--but this must be my first time realizing you can't amplify from a verse reference in a tool.

 

Perhaps the developers can consider putting this somewhere on their surely absurdly long feature request list--it seems all the component functions are there (at least in other parts of the program) that it wouldn't be difficult to implement, but maybe that's not the case and it would have been implemented already if it were easy.

Another instance where this feature would be helpful is this:

 

1. I am in a Greek text

2. I look up a word in BDAG 

3. BDAG gives me a hyperlinked reference to an OT passage (LXX)

4. I want to either select the reference from BDAG and right-click to "Search in" an LXX or select the reference to Amplify to an LXX text so I can get right there

 

As Tim points out upthread, it's only a step more to click on the hyperlinked reference to open up a new text pane, from which I can then select the same reference and either Search in or Amplify, but a more elegant (and simpler) solution for users would be permitting Search in/Amplify directly from a tool like BDAG--much as you can currently amplify from a word in a text. Would love to see this considered in future updates.
